eladnarra<p>After a bit of searching (and trying demos of several paid software), I think I found a good program for making Blackwork patterns! It's a free website, and also has options for cross stitch: <a href="https://flosscross.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">flosscross.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://disabled.social/tags/blackwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blackwork</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/BlackworkEmbroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackworkEmbroidery</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/embroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>embroidery</span></a></p>
eladnarra<p>New blackwork bookmark in progress~ I decided to make one for myself, for the year of the snake.</p><p>Snake and scale pattern designed by me, flowers adapted from a border in a book by Ilse Altherr (I think the second one).</p><p><a href="https://disabled.social/tags/embroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>embroidery</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/BlackworkEmbroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackworkEmbroidery</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/blackwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blackwork</span></a></p>
Kake<p>I did this embroidery ages ago but only washed the stabiliser off last night (so that was the first time I could see if it turned out OK). Relieved it turned out well! If you look at the close-up you can see there are a few places where my “doing in the ends” came through to the good side by mistake, but I’m not too bothered by that.</p><p>The fabric is a viscose/cotton mix bought from Cloth House, the thread is silk floss from Pipers Silks, and the embroidery pattern is lace stitch from the RSN Stitchbank.</p><p><a href="https://www.clothhouse.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">clothhouse.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br><a href="https://www.pipers-silks.com/floss-silk/light-grey-floss-silk" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">pipers-silks.com/floss-silk/li</span><span class="invisible">ght-grey-floss-silk</span></a><br><a href="https://rsnstitchbank.org/stitch/lace-pattern" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rsnstitchbank.org/stitch/lace-</span><span class="invisible">pattern</span></a></p><p>I call this “fake blackwork” because the stitch pattern is a blackwork pattern but I’ve done it on a grid that curves around the neckline, whereas (as far as I know) real blackwork is always done on a strictly square grid. I made the curved grid in Inkscape using two techniques: repeated “inset” of the neckline path for the curved lines, and then “pattern along path” using a repeated straight line segment for the spokes. I printed the grid onto soluble stabiliser and then stitched over it.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Embroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Embroidery</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/BlackWork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackWork</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/BlackWorkEmbroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackWorkEmbroidery</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Inkscape" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Inkscape</span></a></p>
eladnarra<p>I want to eventually share some of my blackwork embroidery designs on my website, which has got me wondering...</p><p>Are there any accessible, text-only notation methods for counted-stitch embroidery, like there are for knitting and crochet?</p><p>I have a lot of ideas for how I could approach it, like including both narrative and shorthand directions with an introductory description. But I don't want to re-invent the wheel!</p><p><a href="https://disabled.social/tags/embroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>embroidery</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/BlackworkEmbroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackworkEmbroidery</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/blind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blind</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/lowVision" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lowVision</span></a> <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/screenReader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>screenReader</span></a></p>
Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher<p>Thought I was on for another <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/FinishOrFrogAlong" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FinishOrFrogAlong</span></a> success last night, but sadly I was stitching while watching football and...mistakes were made.</p><p>Had to frog a whole block and a half, which is especially gutting because I'd only have had one more block to go now!</p><p>Oh well, maybe tonight's my night?</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/CrossStitch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CrossStitch</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/BlackworkEmbroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackworkEmbroidery</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Embroidery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Embroidery</span></a></p>
