We seemingly recognise the threats posed by climate change which will include mass migration (for survival's sake) - but this ‘study' recognises a large number will suffer - and of course it will be the poorer members of our society. Large numbers of poor dispossesed people - I can't wait!

As Forbes unveils its latest Rich List, showcasing yet another record-breaking surge in billionaire wealth, the stark injustice of our economic system has never been clearer. According to Forbes, just over 3,000 billionaires are ‘now worth a record $16.1 trillion in all, $2 trillion more than a year ago and more than the GDP of every country in the world besides the U.S. and China’

BC: a few new #wind projects in December.

What social attitudes must we create to stop the #pipelines, #fracking, #LNG, etc.?

We have the awareness, through society, but the desire isn't there. It's opposed by status quo convenience & #BigCarbon & weak politicians.

We also have the knowledge & ability to address #climatechange in BC, but without leadership, and STARTing, we can't reinforce positive change!

I made a zine about why we lift up hopeful climate fiction stories on the Bright Green Futures podcast! (plus my prior one about solarpunk)

You can download/print/share them (plus I have a handy video on the trick of folding them): brightgreenfutures.substack.co

To fix the climate crisis we need systemic change

We should ask ourselves - which systems are within our reach to change? What can we do on a community level, here and now?

Well, one thing we can do is hosting Mastodon servers and plant trees. Here's how to use that for systemic change

One of the major worries about climate tipping points is that it’s impossible for anyone, even the smartest of scientists, to say with any certainty how soon each of them might be reached or what will happen then.

Could one tipping point trigger another?

Yes, probably, but we don’t for sure which ones or exactly how. And we can’t really predict the timing or the magnitude of positive feedbacks and cascading effects, when multiple tipping points might overlap and reinforce and possibly amplify each other.

It’s not the fault of the scientists. They’re doing the best they can with the evidence and the tools they have. But it’s all quite unpredictable because they have never been in this position before. No one ever has.

What capitalist industry and commerce has done just in the last three decades, pumping nearly a *trillion* tons of CO₂ into the air, has no precedent. Never before in Earth’s history has so much carbon dioxide been added to the atmosphere over such a short period of time.

Because human lifespans are short, 30 years may seem like a long time to us — but in geological terms, that’s merely the blink of an eye. On such a scale, it’s literally as if we have detonated a bomb.

Welcome to the nightmare.

Economic models have systematically underestimated how global heating will affect people’s wealth, according to a new study that finds 4C warming will make the average person 40% poorer – an almost four-fold increase on some estimates.

People in the know know what's coming.

🔴 Climate scientists know.

🔴 Top Wall Street financiers know.

🔴 Our "leaders" in business and government know.

Global warming *will* exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average. Effectively it already has.

Any hope of staying below 2°C also appears to be lost. We are now heading toward a 3° world, if not higher.

Of course we should continue working hard to limit the catastrophic damage as much as possible. But you’re a fool if you’re not beginning at this point to prepare for the worst — because that's what's coming.

Yes, your #allergies are getting worse

"Sneezing and sniffles are some of the sirens of #ClimateChange. In fact, because of warming, pollen is now a nearly year-round menace in some parts of the US. Pollen, the main seasonal allergy trigger, is emerging earlier in the year, in higher concentrations, and lasting longer year after year."
