Not sure if turning the #A14 into the #M14 would be a miracle cure (a Northern bypass for #Ipswich does make more sense, but won't happen overnight) - either would only provide fairly short term gains, they would soon fill up with traffic!

A wider problem is bad #driving during the time pressures of the rush hour - more businesses should adopt flexible working to alleviate this (the lorry drivers are already working 24/7)

A serial #car #thief has been sent to #jail and banned from #driving after stealing and crashing an #EV converted #VW #Kombi ( Typ2) in #Powys #Wales worth £65 000 as he couldn't handle the vehicles acceleration and skidded on manure on a country road (alas, the vehicle was written off)

(incidentally this seems to be a *really* quick turnaround for a Crown #Court case, from #arrest (and #remand) to jail barely within a month?)

I'm more intrigued as to why the middle aged lady drives from #Leigh on Sea to #Braintree just to get #petrol - she would use more fuel than she saves doing this and would have to sit in #A12 traffic during busy times (maybe she has friends or family there?)

Also she's too young to have been driving around the time when #attendedservice was commonplace (it had already stopped in most areas by the 1970s)

Why not turn your wife into a good backseat driver? Don’t wince at the thought. With spring and summer approaching, your wife could be a valuable “navigator”. Buy Ordnance Survey maps for the district you intend to cover and teach your wife to read them.

One of the biggest things I got was that the idea of engineering roadways around human mistakes seems to have eluded society for a very long time.
"officials were no longer allowed to design roads for idealised drivers who never became distracted or exceeded the speed limit. They had to make roads for real people who made mistakes."
We haven't been doing this. We should have. Touch base with your own governments. We all deserve safer roads.

Fantastic article on road safety and putting systems in place to actually reduce the fatalities caused by car society:
bbc.com/future/article/2024051
"The pattern that began to emerge revealed that crash victims were not, as many in the road transport sector, assumed – drunk and irresponsible drivers. For the most part, they were people who made small mistakes within a system that had no margin for error."
