“What if we put solar panels on every roof in the world?”

Johanna Wagstaffe, Meteorologist and Seismologist for the CBC, is truly a woman after my own heart because this is exactly the dorky kind of back-of-the-napkin exercise I stay up into the wee hours of the morning figuring out. And she found a study were scientists actually did the calculations for real and turns out, it would make a real measurable impact.

We need to do this maybe not on every roof, but certainly on every roof that makes sense in every town, city and village in the world.

I am going to put this out there.

When he is sworn in, Mark Carney will be the strongest Prime Minister on Climate Policy and transitioning the economy away from Fossil Fuels that Canada has ever had.

His credentials on making climate policy are nearly as strong as his economic experience.

"You have said that the goal of net zero is the greatest commercial opportunity of our time. Why?”

"Climate change is an existential threat. We all recognize that, and there’s increasing urgency around it. But the converse is, if you are making investments, coming up with new technologies, changing the way you do business, all in service of reducing and eliminating that threat, you are creating value. And what we have seen increasingly, spurred initially by the Sustainable Development Goals, accelerated by Paris, and then by social movements and governments, is societies putting tremendous value on achieving net zero. Companies, and those who invest in them and lend to them, and who are part of the solution, will be rewarded. Those who are lagging behind and are still part of the problem will be punished.”

You heard that right. $9,000 is pocket change to a coal mining company.

Coal wastewater frequently contains selenium, a substance toxic to fish and people.

Initial planning cost of $4 Billion, final construction of the 1000km, 300kph line between Toronto and Quebec City could be up to the cost of 4 #TMX pipelines. ($80B).

Montreal to Toronto in 3hrs.

A large consortium is the winning bid and includes France’s SNCF and Air Canada.

This chart of car maker numbers from @jackyan over the past 20 years is illuminating for anyone interested in the car market, BEVs etc.

3 of the top 4 manufacturers in 2023 are making big BEV lineups and all have moved up or remained steady on the list in the last 20 years. Only Toyota bucks that trend, with very few BEVs on sale, but still holding the #1 spot. But their growth has stagnated.

Notice BYD pops up at #10 in 2023... Where will they be in 2033?

Tesla? Who's that?

GM and Ford have been run so badly that it looks like their goal is to exit the global top 10. Both have intentionally exited markets despite having good product: GM doesn’t even make right-hand-drive cars any more and is a Sino–American operation. The only thing Ford does really well these days is retreat. The market has spoken and they keep missing every opportunity to respond.
