It was created in 2010, five and a half years before Mastodon, explicitly as an alternative to Facebook. Not an all-out Facebook clone, but better than Facebook, and still with everything that's actually useful about Facebook. Including groups.<br><br>So you do as follows:<br><ul><li>Register a user account on a Friendica node for the Facebook group. On Friendica, groups are user accounts with specific settings.</li><li>All those of you who are on Mastodon, and who want to stay on Mastodon, join the group from Mastodon. Attention, though, for starting new threads in a Friendica group from Mastodon requires some steps that aren't engrained in Mastodon's culture.</li><li>All those of you who are not on Mastodon join Friendica, and so they have something that's close enough to Facebook. They don't necessarily have to be on the same node as the group, but they may. Flamekebab<p>As Facebook continues to deteriorate I find myself having to revisit what my lifeboat options are for the <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Gorkamorka" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gorkamorka</span></a> <br>FB group I/we run. It's the most successful GoMo community there has ever been, which is wonderful, but the platform is awful.</p><p>I wonder if anyone on the <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> has put thought into how best to move a <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/FacebookGroups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FacebookGroups</span></a> community.</p>
