I love how moss is growing on the pieces of panelling that have fallen off the ceiling. It's such an odd thing to see - nature's slowly taking over, but it's somehow still confined to those symmetrical, unnatural shapes for the most part.

The winter in Frankfurt has been cold but thankfully, not especially wet. We continued to familiarise ourselves with our urban environment via local walks and museums, while our van Toru has sat mostly idle.

8.7km from Rödelheim to Höchst, closing 68km GrünGürtel Frankfurt green belt walking & cycling loop we began last summer. The Petrihaus was built c. 1720 & converted in 1820 into a Swiss-style riverside refuge (1). “Barfüßer” is a 2016 bronze sculpture depicting a comic creature imagined by artist Kurt Halbritter, 1924–78 (2). The 90km-long Nidda River (3) begins in the Vogelsberg mountains & joins the Main in front of late 18th C. Bolongaropalast in Höchst (4).

Karneval is a pre-Lent festival in Germany marked by parades, masquerades & street parties. In FFM it’s called “Frankfurter Fastnacht” & floats include local icons such as the Bembel jug & Apfelwein glass (1). Revellers may attend in costume (2). Political satire is the theme for some floats; no surprise that deplorable US figures were fair game (3). An assembly in the Römerberg concluding the Großer Frankfurter Fasnachtzug | Great Frankfurt carnival procession (4).
