DelashThe Pinwheel Galaxy (also known as Messier 101, M101 or NGC 5457) is a face-on, counterclockwise Intermediate spiral galaxy located 21 million light-years (6.4 megaparsecs) from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. This exposure also contains a raft of other Galaxies in the field, smaller and much further away such as NGC 5422 a lenticular galaxy.

NGC 5422 is about 100 million light-years (30 megaparsecs) away and located within the sparse NGC 5485 group, which is dominated by lenticular galaxies. It has only a single, thick, disk component. Like other galaxies in the group, it has no recent star formation, as its stellar disk is relatively old (about 10 billion years old). Its disk appears similar to the face-on galaxy NGC 6340, but appears edge-on.

#astrophotography #astronomy #galaxy #space

AI6YR Ben
Okay, geek question for folks out there. My son has since moved on to newer phones, and (once again) I am He Who Disposes Of Old Electronics. Any interesting things can you do with a Galaxy S9? SM-G960U 64GB. AT&T but probably unlockable, but I think it's been dropped a few times (seems to be rebooting itself now and then for no reason... but perhaps it's just been rootkitted by malware). Looks like they have near zero value on eBay. Wipe it and replace it with some other OS? Run Doom on it? #electronics #android #galaxy

Gretchen K DeahlSOUL: the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life; the moral and emotional nature of human beings. (source: Merriam-Webster Dictionary) I watch the local and national news too much. As a result, I am witness to people facing serious life challenges that are beyond my own measured world. To me, the Soul People series reflects aspects of intrinsic humanity, including the suffering, alienation, confusion as well as the quest for joy, peace and understanding that people experience in their day to day lives. Depending upon the "soul" within, they deal with these challenges differently. In these images I am trying to explore and visualize what that might look like.
This artwork is now available on Redbubble:
<a href="https://www.redbubble.com/people/gretchenkdeahl/shop"
