Honest agriculture is local and regional. It is not factory farming. It is not trying to grow water intensive crops in the desert.

It is food security by more traditional means, not corporate profiteering. Not necessarily without tools, but definitely without disregard for the present and future growing conditions. Honest agriculture is reality based, focusing on the needs of the community.

Honest gardening is a kind of truth telling, the way art or literature can be. About the image: The great painter Joan Mitchell spent her childhood in Chicago. She once said she painted from nostalgia. The impressionist style image of a golden wheat field with purpose stalks in the foreground is from a large, astonishing, lively work worth seeing in its entirety. I photographed it at the Tate Modern, London in 2024. "This geographic location, this history, this soil, climate, air, this piece of what was an oak woodland savanna, now built up, and moving into a future of climate change and extreme weather. This is gardening with something that feels like memory, of this place as it might have been 150 years or so ago. It is gardening with something that feels like nostalgia for an imagined future of restored ecosystems and societal health but is most likely planning for a range of possible futures ranging from dire to less dire, and always hoping for the survival of biodiversity, of ecosystem complexity."

#allotment pond status!

The water has been turned on in the #garden, so I could finally fully fill up the pond!

I also started digging out the rock bed in the veg garden (curse whoever thought that was a good idea!), washed some rocks and used them in the pond.

This is making me SO unbelievably happy!
