Another aspect of the housing crisis:

For newly qualified teachers & nurses living in a flat share is often the only viable option; across England in around half of Council areas, a one-bedroom flat is unaffordable on their pay.

If you want to retain newly qualified staff, they need to be able to move from a model of student accommodation (a shared house) to something reflecting their privacy & welfare needs... we need better (affordable) housing for key workers.

The biggest drop the city has ever experienced.

This outmigration has now caused Austin's #housing market to collapse. With home prices down 19.5% over the last two+ years.

There's a news article out to day which follows a Black woman who has bad credit and can't find ANYONE in Seattle to rent to her.

She makes $75k and is WA State Social Worker and is homeless herself.

Absolutely insane out here that having a government job isn't enough for landlords.

Why the fuck is a credit score part of gating access to basic human needs?!

Crucial context on the use of homeless accommodation hundreds of miles away from council areas; indicating a clear strategy:

Secure accommodation at a distance;

Offer it to families & households needing accommodation;

When they (not unreasonably) refuse as it will wrench them out of important & supportive family & social networks (and schools for children), declare they have made themselves 'intentionally homeless' & wash your hands of them.

Those funds are used to fight housing discrimination and enforce fair housing laws across the country. That’s a lot of acronyms in one sentence. And even though we get that when fair housing groups lose $30 million in funding, a lot of people suffer as a result, sometimes we need to see that impact in more personal terms for it to truly sink in.
