The Workers Circle 125 Years Jewish Culture for a Just World Wednesday, April 16, 6:00 PM ET Four Winters: Sharing Partisan Stories Four Winters is an award-winning documentary that captures the story of courageous Jewish fighters who, against unimaginable odds, fought back fiercely against Hitler’s war machine as it raged across Eastern Europe. Writer/Director/Producer Julia Mintz, in conversation with the Workers Circle CEO Ann Toback, will share memorable moments from interviewing the last living partisans. As we approach Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), please join the Workers Circle as we gather as a community to remember the devastation of the Holocaust and celebrate resistance against fascism. Q&A with Director Julia Mintz Torn from their families by the ravages of Hitler’s armies, men and women, many barely out of their teens, escaped into the forests, banding together in partisan brigades; engaging in treacherous acts of sabotage, blowing up trains, burning electric stations and attacking enemy headquarters. Against extraordinary odds, over 25,000 Jewish partisans courageously fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators from deep with the forest of WWII’s Belarus, Ukraine and Eastern Europe, drawing parallels to the current resistance in Ukraine. The last surviving partisans, in their 80s and 90s, relive their journey in Four Winters, a story of enduring hope, grit and humanity.

Join us for the study of Exodus 33, this Sunday 1–3 PM ET. We are entering the most intimate conversation between Tehovah and Mosha.

Tehovah tells Mosha to lead the people to the promised land but refuses to dwell among them due to their stubbornness. The Daughters of Tisraelah mourn and remove their jewelry. Mosha sets up the Tent of Meeting outside the camp, where Tehovah speaks to her face to face. Mosha pleads for Tehovah’s presence to remain with them, emphasizing that it is what sets them apart. Tehovah agrees and affirms Mosha’s favor. Mosha then asks to see Her glory. Tehovah agrees to reveal Her goodness, but only Her back, as no one can see Her face and live.

"There is a seven-week count (some may be familiar with it being referred to as the Counting of the Omer) which starts on the second day of Passover. Each day is counted, for a total of 49 days. The intention is to be more fully present and to make every day count.

Kabbalah added another dimension to the count. 6 Each of the seven weeks is aligned with particular energy from the Tree of Life which provides for spiritual reflection.

While this count can be done in a rote manner (day one, day two) commemorating what others did in the past, the mystical teachings transformed it from an ancient narrative into a present personal story."

Your Seven Week Journey to Transformation A Spiritual Journey written by Dr David Sanders Kabbalah for a Change We are taking a novel approach to the 49-day count which offers a holistic slant on contemplating change in your life. We invite you to use the seven weeks as an opportunity to identify and work on a specific goal (or goals) of the desired change in your life. There is a parallel process to the transformation of the former slaves and their journey and your committing to a journey of change for yourself (whatever “enslavement” you need to emancipate from). The count and its associated energies act as a guide to move you from contemplating to completing change. Your change can be relatively small, such as changing or modifying a particular behavior or habit. You can also choose to implement a significant change such as overcoming an addiction or evolving your identity. As an aid to understanding your process of change we will “check in” to see where the Hebrews were during their seven-week journey. It was a process for them to change their sense of who they were. The Biblical narrative relates that on the Passover night they crossed the border of Egypt with exhilaration. Perhaps they had no idea where they were going, but they were clear where they no longer wanted to be and how they no longer wanted to be perceived and treated. This is a good starting point for your own contemplation of change.

Anyone have any recommendations for some sort of light #Israeli comedy or something, ideally that I can stream from the US without paying for a whole other streaming service? I feel like most of the options I find are super dark, and there's enough dark stuff hurting my poor brain right now without making my entertainment/language practice about it.

Min HaMeitzar: From the Narrow Place seeks to dissolve the traditional divide between performers and audience by inviting the kahal (community) into the musical experience. This hour-long program features original compositions by Lev DePaolo, founder and director of MIRYAM Ensemble, scored for voice, Baroque cello, Baroque violin, and theorbo. The repertoire includes settings of Yedid Nefesh, Kol HaNeshamah, Essa Einai, and verses from Yotzer Or.

The ensemble will present fully orchestrated versions of each piece, interwoven with simplified refrains that encourage communal singing. Through repetition, variation, and moments of silent meditation, we will explore how music can foster deeper connection and shared meaning.

We are also honored to welcome Aly Halpert and Hazzan Jessi Roemer, who will share original compositions of their own.
