I've been saturating myself in classical musicians analyzing songs they've never heard before. The analyses always give me musical ideas.

I'm just going to have to throw myself into writing this album. I have a few song ideas and/or hooks now. It would be helpful if any of them resulted in a complete song. Or piece. Or something a child could play with 2 fingers.

Okay, there are those hooks. And a rambling thing I wrote one night when I might have had some tune in my head, but now I've got pages of lyrics, instead. The tune is long gone. Out to pasture. Chasing mares. The usual sort of thing one does when one is a tune in retirement, whatever that may be.

Meanwhile, I think I might have to use the old method. Not the really old method, where I get callouses and bang something out on a guitar until just before tendinitis sets in, at which point I realize it doesn't have a bridge anywhere, but I can play some ripping lead to it, when my fingers aren't aching.

No. The newer old method, where I start writing something on keyboards. This keeps me from playing lead all the time.

I kid you not, I write better tunes after a layoff than I do when my chops are up. In the latter case, all I want to do is play lead, and the tune suffers. In the former case, I have no callouses and wish to not play any lead guitar right now, thank you, so can we please focus and write the rest of this song before we bleed all over the strings?

If anyone wants to throw poetry at me, I will happily see if I can turn it into music. We can share a copyright. That, plus waiting 5 or 10 years for the royalties to build, might buy a cup of coffee. And by then you'll really want a cup!

How I made the track 'Receding Airline’.

I wrote a bunch in this about messing with notes not audio, using what Bitwig call “note fx”, and the joy of doing arbitrary stuff to surprise yourself. Not sure how I went on describing this! It got long and I rewrote it many times.

Also, a little on making music using someone’s tech and then they go and Milkshake Duck… *deep sigh*

Musicians and producers: My forthcoming book examines how brain science refines music-making without restricting artistic freedom. It outlines cognitive processes in composition, sound design, and performance while addressing perception, memory, and emotion in creative decision-making. The book offers insights that enhance technical ability and artistic clarity.

@ai6yr Hydrogen rules! It takes midi-in as well and you can make your own samples.

Other mature #Linux #musicproduction projects:

#Ardour is a complete DAW. Interface is a B- tops, but it has all the power.

#Guitarix is an effects/"amp-sim" package. Fun for practicing, or making a toy keyboard roar

#Mixxx is live DJ software, busy gui but works great

#PureData is a do-anything toolkit. At its most basic, it can turn ANY number change into a midi message...

I (technically) make #music (generally me and a guitar). I am not amazing at recording, etc. but I do what I can. I can never seem to get any #drums (I don't play drums) and only sometimes some #bass.

If you do #electronicmusic or #beats or anything like that, and want to do some #collaboration, message me. Beats or drums or... *something* added to my recordings would be extremely cool.

heyyy, it's bandcamp friday!

i just re-released the final batch of old music on my new bandcamp page, so it is now up to date with everything i've done so far :btr_bocchi_guitar:

"girls rock" is the sounds of a lonely android girl, as she floats around the moons and planets of an uninhabited star system, creating psychedelic bops and astral jams with the friends that live in her head :sparkles_trans: 🚀 🌌

also, to celebrate re-releasing everything i've put my entire catalog on sale for almost nothing if you like this sort of thing

thanks for listening!

Though I chopped it into 6 tracks, it was written and recorded as one long song that just kept getting bigger and bigger. I originally envisioned it as a 10 minute song- but I kept feeling that the story had other places to go before it reached a conclusion. Thus it ended up being over 30 minutes long! This caused some weirdness in #reaper that hampered production somewhat. Nevertheless, doing it that way made it particularly easy to flow from one mood and tone to the next.

I enjoyed the production of this album a lot. Partially 'cause it follows a narrative and I like coming up with a story even more than I like consuming them, but also because I really enjoy playing the #bass #guitar , and so for this album I gave myself the task of letting the bass drive the melody most of the time. In the process I had a blast coming up with many chunky bass riffs, reminiscent (to my mind) of my favourites like early Pink Floyd or Hawkwind.

Hi, I am Mike!

I decided to write a small
#introduction, as I take my first steps as an artist on the fediverse.

I am a songwriter and a singer in my 20s. Originally I come from Poland, where I lived for the most of my life and then I made a choice to move to Austria.

Since the school, I've been writing songs and sharing them with my friends. I never had the courage to do anything more - publishing for everyone to listen felt too much and out of reach. I guess I didn't feel ready.

Couple of years ago I got into music production and decided to self-make my songs into what you can find now on streaming platforms. It's really cool nowadays, to have an opportunity to share my work, my music with you.

I've been on the mainstream social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram since always, but last years I didn't feel happy using them at all. I know, that a lot of people feel the same way, but since "everyone is there", they can't escape. Now I am following my fav saying - "be the change" - and making a hop to Fediverse in hope to find some like-minded people, who may enjoy the music and what I write.
I am looking forward to what my future on the Fediverse brings and what people will I stumble upon my journey.

Thanks for reading all of that. I wish you all the best ❤️

Regards,
Mike

PS. If you would like to listen to the song, that I like the most, here's the link -

The rest is then easy to find
❤️ Thank you for your time!

this was the first music i made after beginning my transition. i was relearning how to do everything and the sounds that came out seemed dissonant and alien to me at first

i think i like it better now though. or i appreciate it more. it has a kind of a certain vibe anyway :neobot_cat_headphones_pink: 🎶

originally it was one thing, but i added some more stuff and i think it flows better in two parts now, so here’s the first :heart_cyber:

Here’s the radio interview I did that aired yesterday. Tony Stamp, the interviewer, asked me behind the scenes questions about a few different tracks on the album. More practice of how to talk about #MusicProduction in a non-technical way!

Here’s a page about the album that also links to the behind the scenes blog posts I’ve done so far, which Tony mentions.
