MikeI thoroughly dislike musicals - so now I've said it. But, the performance of 'My Fair Lady' at Curve Leicester was jolly good.I've not seen it on stage or the film before but I knew a lot of the songs. It was a sumptuous presentation with a splendid cast of talented artists. A non-traditional take on the show: seedy low rent nightclub; the son was differently-abled. But it worked. The show was hilarious; the music (as always) was wonderful, and the message of the show is just as relevant today as it was in 1984 when we first saw it. A chunk of Sweeney Todd. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Most of Cinderella, as a step-mother doesn’t count. Ninja 🦝 :tinoflag:Rewatched Deadpool 2 with Pie tonight, we needed something a bit gloriously stupid to cackle at Towards the end there’s an excerpt from Tomorrow, which is from Annie. One of my absolute least favourite <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/musicals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#musicals</a>. And like. Sure. It fit the dramatic context of the scene and of the environment. But There are so many musicals with and about orphans. With much better songs. Some arguably equally as iconic at this point.
