The former international head of Doctors Without Borders says she was left “stunned” after [NYU] canceled her presentation because some of her slides discussing cuts at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) could be viewed as “anti-governmental”.

Joanne Liu, Québécoise and former president of #MSF had her talk cancelled at New York University because one of her slides showed how many humanitarian aid workers died in Gaza and also showed it was the deadliest place for aid workers in 2024.

Apparently it is antisemitic to show this data (that's what they told her)

Thinking about the absurd declaration by #NYU of its faculty as persona non grata, simply for being present at student demonstrations about #Palestine I am reminded of something Ellen Schrecker years ago wrote about how universities justified the firing of faculty during the McCarthy era

Finally, an updated #introduction: Hello! From #Shanghai to #Montreal, now in #NewYorkCity. Master #student in #ComputerScience at #NYU Tandon, still struggling to figure out what I gonna do next. So it is now all but certain that I will go to #NYU Tandon for a #MSCS. Maybe I could've prepared better for applications, but regardless, I need to keep on fighting!

I've got good signs from a lab and hopefully I can do some practical work during the semester. I also need to figure out networking and recruiting events...
