A guy responded critically, with incredible confidence, that EVERYONE KNOWS that tariffs are a sign of respect for the other country. Turns out NOT applying tariffs is actually disrespectful. Who knew?!? And yes, people responded in support of this idiotic self-appointed maga armchair economist. Make it stop. 🙄

I was shocked at how many people were openly willing to put their name and face on posts where they clearly not only believe this tripe, but advocate it to their friend groups.I posted a link in reply to a Snopes article debunking this longstanding conspiracy theory and got called a grifter for linking to Snopes.NextDoor is moderated by local groups of volunteers, so the quality and effectiveness of its Trust & Safety model is highly variable.I await a moderation decision on whether the post will be removed, but in the meantime, it's just clownshoes over there right now.

Danny GarsideI'd love to be able to sign up to my local street, or the street I grew up on etc etc, and be able to answer questions. Of course there's the risk of it turning into <a href="https://social.coop/tags/NextDoor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NextDoor</a>-style dumpster fire, but I wonder if in combination with careful muting it could work out (subscribe: location, mute: "dog poo" etc)
