This Is My Glasgow<p>I came across this faded mural of Robert Burns on a sea wall on the Ardeer Peninsula in Ayrshire while searching a former explosives factory for one of the few surviving buildings from Glasgow's 1938 Empire Exhibition. Painted in 1996 by the local artist Gavin McInnes, the mural's based on an 1787 composition by Alexander Nasmyth, which is one of the few comtemporary portraits of Scotland's national poet.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mural" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mural</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/robertburns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>robertburns</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/irvine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>irvine</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ardeer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ardeer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetart</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>A sculpted bronze panel of Alloway Kirk scene from Robert Burns' 1791 narrative poem Tam o' Shanter, where he first lays eyes on the young witch he nicknames Cutty Sark (after the revealling gown she's wearing). Entranced by her salacious dancing, Tam calls out, revealling his presence to the assembled witches, and causing him to have to flee for his life. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sculpture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sculpture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/robertburns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>robertburns</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cuttysark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cuttysark</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/georgesquare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>georgesquare</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/alloway" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alloway</span></a></p>
