This is Piel Castle, which lies at the southern tip of Piel Island, in Morecambe Bay. It was built by monks in the C14th as a sort of fortified warehouse. I only saw it in the distance, from a neighbouring island.

More Pueblo III ruins. Likely around 1200 CE.

A black and white landscape photo of a cliff dwelling ruin. The ruin is tucked under a cliff overhang. It is orientated running diagonal from the closest part in the upper right to the more distant part center left. The entire span is about 70 feet. There's a large doorway on the right and sunshine can be seen inside the room indicating there's no roof. Adobe covered walls are seen going to the left until another doorway is reached about halfway down the face of the ruin. The left side of the ruin looks more like bricks then adobe covered walls.

Rim rock.

Black and white landscape photo with a view along the inner rim of a sandstone canyon. Because of erosion pattern successive rim are formed going down a sandstone cliff. This view is looking along a rim below the top of the canyon. The rim is on the right side. The deeper canyon is somewhat visible in the center left. In the right foreground is an ancient granary, where natives stored food supplies. The slab door is missing revealing a rectangular opening. The rim extends into the distance on the right. It is fairly flat with scattered boulders. In the distance are many odd shapes and spires. Large boulders sit perched on top of the canyon rim and there are a lot of overhangs along this inner rim. They blend in, but there are actually numerous granaries and living space along the canyon wall.

Photograph of a river in winter, almost entirely covered with thick snow, except in three huge openings in the middle, where you can see that the water is still running fast and not frozen. On the right side of the river, ruins of a 19th century mill are still standing on the shore. Trees grow of the right river bank, visible in the top of the picture.

The photo is in colour but almost look like monochrome. The white snow has a blue tint to it, the water is dark and navy blue, and the ruins are dark grey. I'm quite happy with this picture, knowing how hard it is to photograph a river in winter.

Part II from today's walk. Since we have had a decent amount of rain over the past week, the usually quiet creek turned into rapids. We are still under flood warning and I see why.
