IrishMASMSPart 3/3 I did some research online; most are telling to boot into safe mode but M$ removed the capability. So, I am a little lost on where to go next in getting Win10 or Win11 running on this. IrishMASMSPart 2/3 Though this has a 64-bit processor, let me try the Win10 x86 32-bit LTSP installer from 2019: and it worked! The install went fine, but it ran dog slow. I used the native browser to download and then upgraded the <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/BIOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#BIOS</a> to the latest for the W510 and everything was noticeably slow. Unfortunately, most of the tools I want to use are 64-bit so this version of Win10 is not really an option. To test & try to troubleshoot, I installed the latest version of <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Debian</a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Linux</a>. The install went fine, and the user experience was much better than the 32-bit Win10 – no real noticeable slowness. Ok, Linux is an option – but not what I had planned for this laptop. Let me wipe the drive (getting rid of <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/GRUB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GRUB</a>) and retry installing Win11 or Win10 LTSP. Now when I boot with either Win11 or Win10 LTSP <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/USBs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#USBs</a> the windows logo flashes and the dreaded black screen with blinking cursor appears. We don’t even get the option to install…. (Ugh!) Currently I booted into <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/ShredOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ShredOS</a> and am wiping the drive as a load test. <a IrishMASMSPart 1/3 The continuing efforts with the <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/ThinkPad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ThinkPad</a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/W510" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#W510</a>: A nice surprise is this has four (4) <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/DIMM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DIMM</a> slots, so I was able to upgrade the memory to 32GB (and tested out fine with <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/MEMTest86" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MEMTest86</a>+ ver 7)! Unfortunately, getting an <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/OS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OS</a> installed has been problematic. IrishMASMS2/2Which is a shame, since this T430s runs both 10 and 11 really well with the max <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/16GB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#16GB</a> of <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/RAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RAM</a> - it boots up in seconds with a <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/1TB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#1TB</a> <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/ssd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ssd</a> I installed. The <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/keyboard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#keyboard</a> has a nice feel to it (even with the chicklet keys), and is wide enough but not a surfboard wide. The <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/USB3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#USB3</a> and the <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/expresscard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#expresscard</a> ports let me use this for tech projects as well as the browsing and job hunting I am currently focused on. With <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/idgkmd64" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#idgkmd64</a>.sys being released of July 2015. If you remove the driver, the laptop defaults to the base Microsoft video driver with the horrid resolution, but you can enable memory integrity at this point. Reboot, and windows will alert that the driver cannot load because a security setting is blocking the loading of the driver. I have dug around at length, there is no updated driver for Windows 10 or 11 (abandoned by Intel). I have tried windows update, Intel's own driver update tool, and the usual ThinkPad forums with no success. Ive found multiple posts of less experienced folks trying to decipher this issue and situation, all threads become dead ends. So either you use the default Windows <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/VGA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#VGA</a> driver with memory integrity enabled and horrible resolution, or the <a href="https://defcon.social/tags/windows8" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#windows8</a> driver release with memory integrity disabled.
