I totally agree (as you know) with the "master" thing, <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/users/ekaitz_zarraga" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@ekaitz_zarraga@mastodon.social</a></span>: at the end of the day, it's just the usual <a href="https://snac.tesio.it?t=usa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#USA</a> <a href="https://snac.tesio.it?t=imperialism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#imperialism</a> at work, as they want every sign that remind them of their long <a href="https://snac.tesio.it?t=slavery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#slavery</a> heritance and of their systemic <a href="https://snac.tesio.it?t=racism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#racism</a> removed, and they even use their own oppressed minorities to justify and push such removal on everybody else in the world.<br><br>In Italy, many of my younger fellow developers are second generarion immigrant and black or brown people, and they all consider such push to rename the "master" branch a ridiculous hypocrisy.<br><br>"Like if you could use <code>git</code> to bound a person to chains", one said.<br><br>That's why I always push back against similar renames (I also renane those who wanted <a href="https://snac.tesio.it?t=gimp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Gimp</a> renamed): polishing language to please USA remorse is a subtle form of imperialism and oppression against everybody else. A passive-aggressive attack built on top of strumentalized oppressed minorities.<br>____<br><br>BUT I care about people feelings.<br><br>I want them to express their feelings with language, and I try to help them feel better (unless their feeling lead them to hurt anybody else).<br><br>I don't want a world where people keep their feelings for themselves, in a sort of faulty imitation of machines. People are not mechanical bot, and they shouldn't pretend to.
