Ben Lockwood, PhD<p>Wrote down some thoughts about exploring the <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/solarpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarpunk</span></a> concept as praxis:</p><p><a href="https://write.as/benlockwood/exploring-solarpunk" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">write.as/benlockwood/exploring</span><span class="invisible">-solarpunk</span></a></p><p><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/writing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writing</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/anarchism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anarchism</span></a></p>
Ben Lockwood, PhD<p>Tried my hand at some solarpunk graphic art design. I have zero design ability but I find the utopian aesthetic to be a good way to stay positive amidst all the shit going on right now. Keep making stuff. </p><p><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/solarpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarpunk</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/graphicdesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>graphicdesign</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/minimalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>minimalism</span></a> <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a></p>

I'm very involved in the local <a href="https://social.coop/tags/freestore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freestore</span></a> and trying to help organize larger <a href="https://social.coop/tags/postcapitalist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>postcapitalist</span></a> ventures.</p>
UnicycleSam<p>This is your reminder that if you want to build a world without oppression and domination, you'll have to build your own organizations that are as free from oppression and domination as possible given the world we live in.</p><p>This could be a book club, a sewing circle, a bike kitchen, a weekly potluck group, a gardening club, or a host of other groups. Start building them locally and then start confererating them together.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a> <a href="https://kind.social/tags/solarpunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarpunk</span></a></p>
UnicycleSam<p>I think the biggest error I see in the movement to stop climate change is the idea that the major barrier is public opinion, and that if we just educate the public on how bad it will be they will demand action from politicians. This is a major error because public opinion does not have much to do with what the state does. Public opinion and voting are limitations politicians work around, not driving forces.</p><p>You need whole new institutions, new power structures.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a></p>
UnicycleSam<p>It's important to build apartments in cities, but they can also be an important housing type in small towns. A friend of mine used to live in an apartment in a town of about 600.</p><p>Walkability, housing that shares walls for energy and space efficiency, shared spaces for gathering and sharing, these principles apply to the biggest cities to the smallest villages. </p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a> <a href="https://kind.social/tags/urbanism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>urbanism</span></a></p>
UnicycleSam<p>Our lack of reciprocity with nature is largely the result of a lack of reciprocity with each other.</p><p>It's difficult to form reciprocal relationships with the wider ecology when our relationships with each other are not based on reciprocity. </p><p>We should build organizations based around reciprocity. We need to expand the spheres of life where we take care of each other because we know they would do the same for us. We have to expand it so far we take care of the planet we rely on.</p><p><a href="https://kind.social/tags/socialecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>socialecology</span></a></p>
Findus<p>--&gt; <br>As for my interests: </p><p>I would love to live in a world of <a href="https://social.coop/tags/LibrarySocialism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibrarySocialism</span></a>. Especially when nice people are around.</p>
