#Bluesky now redirects links through "go.bsky.app".

This is a kludge similar to Twitter's "t.co" to pass on referer information (already available on the open web) from mobile apps, to make Bluesky look better in analytics reports.

Intercepting clicks is always problematic from a privacy/security perspective; in addition, it introduces a technical layer that can fall over (the redirection service).

NorthSky, new ATProto fork, declared as a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. A worker-owned cooperative based out of Canada. bsky.app/profile/transrights.n

They're not doing this via ActivityPub because they're focused on protecting the people in our communities that are already on Bluesky. Pro sex work and explicit content between consenting adults.

I'm glad someone is doing this work.

If you click on a link in a Bluesky post, it is now automatically redirected via the domain go.bsky.app before it actually goes to the link in the post. There is no way to stop this or know that it is happening as the redirect only flickers on the screen for a fraction of a second.

Presumably this means Bluesky can now track all link clicking on their platform, including IP addresses, destinations etc?

Or have I misunderstood?

Bluesky is spinning it as a tool for publishers to track referrals, but going beyond the spin it seems to be giving Bluesky access to people's online activity?

Así que ni corto ni perezoso, ya que estas cosas me divierten, me puse a intentar saltarme la censura.

Ya habia notado que detecta las formas redondas. Con las tetas funcionan los tatuajes, collares o simplemente sombras en espiral.

Con este culo habia que romper la forma de alguna manera y con esto pasa el filtro...

This week, an essay about #Bluesky's proposal for setting user preferences on their accounts. This allows people to indicate how they want their data to be handled off-protocol. I wrote about how the #fediverse can improve on this, using its strengths of many different communities, each with its own culture and values.

The fediverse can sidestep the question of default account values because people have many accounts on the fediverse, for different use cases. This gives the option to set a different default value for different services. A Pixelfed platform for close friends should set stricter default data-handling preferences. A Mastodon server for blogging platform Medium that has the goal of giving more visibility and reach to its writers could consider setting default values to be more open. The power of the fediverse is in that there does not have to be a single default at all. Instead, communities and servers should be able to set default values for themselves. This can help shape the tone of the community, and makes it clear what the identity of a community is about. What’s even more powerful is that this only concerns the default value, giving people the ability to set their preferences as they desire. The state of the open social web is such that there are now two protocols in competition with each other. That gives the ability for the fediverse to take ideas from other networks, and improve on them in a way that plays up to the unique strengths that the fediverse has.
