So, I never did a proper #introduction because I am not in to those things, but after browsing the hashtag for few days I decided that maybe this is the time to make my own post.

So I am guy in 20's and mainly interested in #homebrewing #brewing and #cycling

More specifically I started brewing my own #beer when I was 15, because it was the easiest way to get alcohol at that time. It became my hobby, I moved to #cider only because I couldn't get decent one in store. And after that I worked in #craftbeer brewery.

As for #cycling I am interested in #bikepacking #biketouring #commuterbike and more of a utilitarian cycling. Right now I am touring through Europe on my bike and because I don't have anything other to do I will be doing that for about 6 months.

Sometimes I post in Czech, sometimes in English and I also repost from #lemmy where I moderate @homebrewing

Last week I bottled half the braggot and today I've bottled the rest. It ended up being 1010 FG and 6.5% alcohol.

Braggot is a old drink that is between beer and mead. I found it in a authentic viking cookery book. I do viking renactment so that is why I was interested in doing it. It tastes okay, I made 12 750ml bottles in total and one 1L bottle.

Was worried about the sediment but settled quick.

I’m thinking to try to make hop water. Never tried a commercial version so don’t have a point of reference, but the idea of sparkling, slightly hoppy water is appealing.

I did do a water kefir with some hop tea once and it didn’t really work - I didn’t get it hoppy enough

Brülosophy and More Beer articles seems to have some good ideas.

Anyone else tried making this and have any pointers?

Also thinking to make a hop tea and mix that with Japanese cold barley tea.

Continued thread

Now I think if it.. when I put it together I was following a recipe however I couldn't get the gravity right and I had to add water to it to increase the original gravity which needed to be 1060.

The grafity now if 1020 if it were 1000 if would be 7.8% (the correct percentage). Idk what I did wrong, if anything. Perhaps the area I stored it weren't optimal and it just needs time. The yeast definitely did not die perhaps it just worked slow or I added too much or little of something.

So I started brewing braggot a few weeks ago and the first 3 weeks of fermentation are over. The second stage is just bottling and adding honey to each bottle.

It is a mead, beer kinda drink and required a bunch of honey (as opposed to granulated sugar) for the yeast to feed on etc.

It is meant to be 7.8% alcohol however it has come out as 5.8% ... idk why unless it increases in the next 2 weeks of being bottled.... 🤔🤔

I'll bottle it at the weekend and hopefully try it in 3 weeks.

#Introduction

I'm just a guy with a lot of hobbies - #brewing, growing stuff, making #vinegar, collecting #AncientCoins, #photography, #boardgames, #ComputerGames, and much more.

I need a new hobby like I need a new hole in the head, but I am also powerless to resist when a new hobby strikes. Such is life.

I work as a #TechnicalWriter at a Danish software company. I have three clever and independent children who shout at me a lot, and a wife who doesn't. We live a happy normie-life in suburbia.

Back in the before-times I studied #linguistics at #AarhusUniversity. I think about #AncientRome and #AncientGreece probably every hour or so.

Realized I never did an #introduction post!

I'm a socially-anxious #pan / #bi elder millennial with blue hair & pronouns in the bio (she/they) in upstate NY with their spouse & 3 cats (Shadow, Kikashi, Cannoli)

Work: tech side of healthcare, support & dev experience -- mostly #C++ and #Javascript
