James Akers<p>About a year ago <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@alifeeney" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>alifeeney</span></a></span> and I got this tropical plant from a neighbor. It had been brightening up our dim room with its tropical leaves, but it loves sun, and our cloudy Brooklyn apartment does not provide, so its been dying/shrinking and has a mould from not enough light.</p><p>After trying little cheap led lights for it, I decided to use some of the giant tubes I got in NC and make a light for it. This is about 12-18 feet or so of 20mm mercury rose pink. I think its between 4- 6 pounds of glass. James Akers<p>I took a trip down to Raleigh, NC. to drop off some neon and pick up some giant fluorescent tubing that was slated for the dumpster. This neon shop relocated to New Orleans and they left behind two pallets of tubing with diameters ranging from 15-25mm and lengths between 6 and 10 feet (2-3 meters)! </p><p>I was only able to fit about a fifth of the choicest colors into my minivan. Mega, giant tubes. Apparently these came from Atlantic City shops making neon and lighting for hotels and casinos there. </p><p>When I can get them, these big tubes cost me $20- $30 each new. Now I have hundreds of them to play with! Instead of lining cove lights and skyscrapers, the giant tubes are gonna become big cloud doodles, sculptures, and line my living room :).
