Tim Sherratt<p>So I've had a meeting with the NLA and I'm still in shock. Apparently under the current interpretation of the <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Trove" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trove</span></a> API terms of use, you cannot access 'content', only 'metadata'. This means, for example, it is a breach of the terms of use to download the text of a newspaper article using the API. If you want to do this you have to get the NLA's permission beforehand. This is despite the fact that the text is actually in the API responses. WTF?! <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/GLAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GLAM</span></a></p>
Jeremy<p>Since informalscience.org was down (probably due to ongoing manufactured funding chaos), I've downloaded the NISE reports that fellow evaluator Amy Grack Nelson shared. It's about 10 years of previously publicly available reports from museums and nonprofit organizations.</p><p>If there's interest here, I can share the link, but I don't want to give the bots/scrapers more fuel.</p><p><a href="https://glammr.us/tags/evaluation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>evaluation</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/InformalLearning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>InformalLearning</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/museums" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>museums</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/glam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glam</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/DigitalPreservation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalPreservation</span></a></p>
Tim Sherratt<p>Help! On Friday the National Library of Australia suspended my Trove API keys, threatening 15 year's work helping researchers use &amp; understand Trove. If you use my tools or value my work you might like to let the NLA know. Details here: <a href="https://updates.timsherratt.org/2025/02/24/years-of-work-on-trove.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">updates.timsherratt.org/2025/0</span><span class="invisible">2/24/years-of-work-on-trove.html</span></a> Please share! <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/GLAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GLAM</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>histodons</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/digitalHumanities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>digitalHumanities</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/histodons" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>histodons</span></a></span></p>
