This Is My Glasgow<p>Old branded access cover in the Govanhill area of Glasgow. A cursory search hasn't located R Morton and Son, but I presume they were plumbers. A deeper dive into the records should confirm this, but the site of their premises at 277 Ballater Street is now occupied by the Gorbals Leisure Centre.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/accesscover" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accesscover</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>When in opened, it seated over a thousand people, and showed its last film in 1961. This was the Oscar-winning biopic of Frantz List Song Without End, which starred Dirk Bogarde who went to the city's Allan Glen's School in his teenage years.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinemas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinemas</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ancientegypt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ancientegypt</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The Govanhill Picture House. This wonderful Egyptian-themed Art Deco cinema was designed by Eric Sutherland and opened in 1926. It's design was presumably inspired by the mania for all things accient Egyptian which swept the world after the rediscovery of Tutankhamun's tomb just a few years before in 1922. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinemas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinemas</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ancientegypt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ancientegypt</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The former New Bridgegate Church in Dixon Road on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed in a rather wonderful Scots Gothic style by Thomson, Sandilands and Macleod, it was built in the early 1920s.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/church" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>church</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowchurches" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowchurches</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/crosshill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crosshill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/buildingphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>buildingphotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The glorous former Govanhill and Crosshill Burgh Halls on Cathcart Road in Glasgow. Built in 1879 and designed by Frank Stirrat in a Scots Baronial style, it was paid for by W.S. Dixon of the Govan Iron Works. As a result, it's now known as Dixon Halls.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/crosshill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crosshill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/scotsbaronial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scotsbaronial</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Glasgow tenements have some wonderful Art Nouveau tiles in them, but of all the different patterns I've come across so far, these are amongst my favourites. They're from a close in Govanhill on the Southside of the city. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/tiling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tiling</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ceramics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ceramics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artnouveau" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artnouveau</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/tiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tiles</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/tenement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tenement</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowtenements" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowtenements</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>I love the shape of this terminal pavilions on Victoria House in the Govanhill area of Glasgow. Dating from around 1900, it was once the home of A.F Reid and Sons Bakers. In 1909, it was considered one of the most modern bakeries in the city.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowarchitecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowarchitecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbakers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a></p>
