E is for “epiphany.” I actually really struggled to come up with an “E” concept. The big thought that occupied my brain was of my mom’s biological dad, Elmer, who I only knew a bit. But if I was going to share a pic of him, it’s a specific one I don’t have.

This morning after a meeting I took a break and looked at Pixelfed and someone had shared one of my pictures and it was a surprise — a little moment of feeling “seen.” And it felt different here because that person shared that picture because it happened into their feed because they opted in … they followed me — indicating at least some interest in seeing my posts. Or maybe through a hashtag they’re interested in and opted to follow or search. Humans determined its relevance — not an algorithm designed to exploit our emotions to drive up weekly usage, ad revenue, or whatever other agenda their founders have in mind.

That’s what I loved about the early Internet. In the early Internet years I found a feeling of belonging that I hadn’t experienced in real life, where I felt like a foreign animal with its antennae up just trying to figure out how to navigate the world’s expectations.

And that’s why I’ve been so strongly drawn here. Because it’s people. And it means so much to be seen, or to see something and think: “highly relatable.”

Yesterday marked my 66th trip around the sun. Yikes! I enjoyed a peaceful day, with all the right notes, including some time with my Joyful Meadow. Time for an 8 month update. Haven't had much Meadow time with the chaos of the past month, but I have made some progress on my dawn sky. #IMadeThis #Embroidery

Love to see an article that digs into some of the complexity of combat we've built.

And if you don't like roguelites, still give it a try! It's not wholly run-based -- you gain power over the course of a dungeon that resets at the end (your "build"), but you're also permanently acquiring new weapons and unlocking new locations. We avoid the "start from zero" feeling that frustrates me in roguelikes.
