I just learned about something fascinating that I _have_ to integrate into a #ttrpg campaign some day:
The city of #Verona had swimming mills.

Stratford Mill (1820) by English landscape painter John Constable (1776-1837). Stratford Mill was the second of the six monumental paintings of the Stour landscape Constable exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1819 and 1825. After Constable’s death, the painting became known as ‘The Young Waltonians’, a reference to Izaak Walton’s book on fishing, The Compleat Angler, published in 1653.

The former Bishop Mills on the banks of the River Kelvin in the Partick area of Glasgow. It was built in 1839 as a flour mill for the miller and grain merchant William Wilson. The mill remained water powered until the 1950s and was in use until 1965. It was converted to residential accommodation in the 1980s. I particularly like the corn sheaf finials on the gables of this building.

Petaluma Mill
This mill is the home of Hunt & Behrens, Inc. A provider of livestock feed, pet supplies, poultry feed. Not something I'm really involved with other than I really like the mixture of this industrial building mixed in a small Northern California town.
To me, this image really creates a feel of mystery and stirs the imagination.

Nielsen Grist Mill built in 1893 by Niels Hansen for Hans Peter Nielsen. The mill was powered by water from the Fremont River. Farmers would receive one sack of flour for three sacks of wheat. The mill operated until the 1930s. Apparently, the mill still continues its original equipment. It is on private property and not open to the public. (West of Torrey, Utah, 10/25/2024.)
