A few photos from today's visit to #DashPointWA in #FederalWay. My wife and I caught an unexpected low tide during our visit and mostly just walked on the beach.

I've never seen this many #SandDollars in Washington before, there were thousands of them! Only seen that before in Oregon. Had to be careful where we stepped at some points. Two pictures here to demonstrate it, since the zoomed-out one doesn't really do it justice. Each of those dark lines is a sand dollar.

See this ICE vehicle loitering in the partking lot of a popular PNW Ukranian grocery store in Fife, WA.

Turns out these were not ICE officers at all, instead these are believed to be impostors impersonating federal officials.

An official statement from ICE indicates that this was not one of their patrols and is a federal crime.

Send tips on this ICE impersonator to WAISN's immigrant-led tipline:

Spring cleaning 3/x
I'm making room in the compost bin for chicken bedding and manure. We do have municipal compost (I use it for brushy material) but the chicken waste, grass and plant clippings, and most autumn leaves we compost on site. I'll spare you the details of cleaning the coop, but the chickens clean like to help. The only thing is, their idea of helping isn't quite same as mine.

Spring cleaning 2. So you put compostables into the left bay. Then when they're partially done, you shift them to the middle bay, then to the right. Two turns and you're done. Here I've pulled off the newer material to get to the older stuff to move it to the right (after using the finished compost and shifting the middle bin first). This is all to make room in the left bin for the chicken manure and bedding that's coming.

Spring cleaning this weekend to get ready for new gardening season. First, the compost needs to be turned. The first thing to know about compost is that there are a lot of ways to do it, and a lot of people are convinced that theirs is the only right way. I ignore them. I am a lazy composter. I don't balance my greens and browns, I don't take temperature readings, I don't turn the piles more than a few times a year. I use the three bay system.

A beautiful moss covered Western red #cedar #tree - still unprotected.
Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.

These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.

Welp, I did not score early access to the Enchantments or Mt Rainier permits. And you know what that means, it's MAP TIME!

There's still chances for shorter trips at the above areas if I get lucky. But for my long walk, I'm targeting either a loop in the ONP that includes the Grand Valley, Gray Wolf Pass and Mt Deception or the Alpine Lakes high route.

But I have a lot of ideas, and maps. 😁
