In six Texas districts that used at-large voting systems, ideologically driven conservatives successfully helped elect school board members who have moved aggressively to ban or remove educational materials that teach children about diversity.

This Charter School Superintendent Makes $870,000. He Leads a District With 1,000 Students.

On paper, Salvador Cavazos earns less than $300,000 to run Valere Public Schools, a small Texas charter network. But taxpayers likely aren’t aware that in reality, his total pay makes him one of the country’s highest-earning superintendents.

While #Trump suggests the federal govt is doing too much on #education, he also demands that it do more. The #ExecutiveOrder is expected to amplify Trump’s call for #schools to excise *illegal discrimination* in the *guise* of #diversity, #equity & #inclusion programs or risk losing federal #funding, which accounts for about 10% of #K12 public #school dollars & a significant share of higher education funding.

A Rural Alaska School Asked the State to Fund a Repair. Nearly Two Decades Later, the Building Is About to Collapse.

Rural school districts depend on the state to fund construction and maintenance projects. But over the past 25 years, Alaska lawmakers have ignored hundreds of requests for public schools that primarily serve Indigenous children.

Last of all, ahead of this weekend's Oscars ceremony, our @CultureDesk shared some inspiration for winners giving speeches: Jane Fonda’s absolutely barnstormer from the SAG Awards, where she received a lifetime achievement award. “We are in our documentary moment. This is it, and it’s not a rehearsal. And we mustn’t for a moment kid ourselves about what is happening,” she told the audience.

🧵 My first school class experience in our #farmLife #museum in Alsace, France (beside an art workshop): I was a pupil (and auxiliary force) for my colleagues who teached #children how to make butter and how to write with 19th century dip pens. I accompanied them to find out if I want to teach that later, too, and how. My colleagues are ex-teachers, I worked only with adults throughout my life. Some impressions.

What should we do about pupils from poor backgrounds not eating enough?

Free school meals is one answer, with MPs now suggesting an auto-enrolment to ensure *all* children are eating properly;

but, as free school meals, has itself become a data (and funding) point, the easiest solution - to just provide free school means for every pupil - remains controversial.

However, we proceed, the emphasis has to be on ensure *no* child is hungry at school!
