postmodernWhat do you want to bet most of Bluesky's sudden growth is partially from username squatters? While Bluesky does support using custom domains for your handle, and will eventually charge for them, not everyone can setup a custom domain nor be willing to pay for one. Thus the <code>@bsky.social</code> namespace will become overcrowded and common usernames will become a hot commodity. HousingCat🍉Here's a de-growth conceptual architecture sketch I made. We're always talking about the day we get to tear up the automobile roads so why not skyscrapers too? Many are made of old poorly insulating glass and waste tons of energy on HVAC cooling during the summer. Not to mention the regular need to replace gaskets & caulking.Why not take advantage of their access to sunlight and heat for vertical farms instead of making them dry saunas for office workers? The upper floors which get more sun could be deconstructed into an outdoor space. There is existing tech (called the sunbeamer if you're interested) that tracks the sun via rotating mirror "vents" and directs sunlight into mirror tubes to provide natural light for plants. This is necessary because deeper into the middle of the building's footprint, sunlight will not reach plants. The first few floors could be used for living spaces as they will be much easier to maintenance and thermally sound. I worked on tall office buildings for a long time and their main feature is how easy they are to rennovate. Ceiling and floors are modular and the walls are easy to construct. Plumbing may be an issue though as often public restrooms are centralized around the stairs and elevator, the "core" if you will- this is done to minimize vertical penetrations through concrete or metal floor slabs. Also please forgive me for not drawing the stairs & elevator, it's just a concept sketch ;P. I'm interested in how something like this will decay over time and whether or not its inhabitants would even be interested in maintaining the above structures. Would they be viewed as dangerous hubris (the process of construction at those heights and its wastefulness) of past generations and be slowly deconstructed? Would those farming spaces be valued enough to repair the structures? I don't know but I'm interested in seeing how the city will transform and likely deconstruct in a world without hierarchy over nature. This idea is chronologically a late game stage for anarchy imo, the point where we're squatting entire skyscrapers, will be when we've "won". This also may not be as practical of an idea but we anarchists have always dabbled in a little utopian thinking.
