A pair of black swans swimming side by side in the lagoon of a beautiful resort on the tropical island of Maui, Hawaii. The water is rippled with colors of blue and green.

The black swan is a large waterbird with mostly black plumage and red bill. Although native to Australia, sightings elsewhere have become reasonably common. They were brought to the UK as ornamental birds like peacocks and golden pheasants.

Symbolically, the black swan is associated with the protective power of romance, the joy and freedom felt in helping others and equality.

Silent Sunday

Springtime sunshine lights up a small group of white crocus like flowers. White petals and few delicate purple lines are just visible inside the base of each petal. Bright yellow stamens reach up from the centre of each flower.

The grass covered edge of the lake is dotted with small clumps of green leaves jutting straight up of some crocus flowers.

Stood at the edge of a lakeside reed bed with a row of houses on the opposite bank. The feather topped reeds fill most of the picture and catch the spring sunshine. The lake surface is calm and still, reflecting the clear blue sky above. In the distance a few water birds can be seen sunning themselves on the opposite bank.

Stood on the gently sloping grass bank at the edge of a lake, a family of swans gracefully swim towards us. The younger members of the family are nearly full grown but still have plenty of grey feathers.

The weather these last couple of days turned in a more Spring type direction, so we made the most of it with a nice day out yesterday.

We met some swans, and also this absolute madlad of a Collie who attempted (failed) to fight one of the swans. It was ok though because shortly after his humiliating defeat, he found the Best Stick at the bottom of a puddle.

Traipsed around the river and various muddy walking trails, saw lots of dogs.

Found a giant mushroom for the pikmin.

And popped in to TWO Greggses on the way home but neither had any stotties left. Absolutely tragic end to an otherwise lovely day

A black and white Border Collie caught mid-action with his tongue lolling out as he ran to pick up an exciting stick. He's on a forest path covered in fallen leaves, with bare trees on both sides.

For #MythologyMonday -- how about the #Roman myth of the #constellation Cygnus?

The story goes that when Phaethon, the son of Helios, drove his father's chariot he lost control & Zeus/Jupiter had to kill him.

In the aftermath, Phaethon's lover, Cygnus, collected his bones to give him a proper funeral. The gods were so moved by this devotion, they put him in the night sky as a swan (who famously mate for life).
