Paul H :tinoflag:<p>Budapest, 1970. A rather distinctive 'stadium' shaped building in Budapest's III district, Óbuda. At this time silk buttons were made here, although it looks also like a residential building. Today it houses the Hungarian Wine Academy.</p><p>Fortepan [74123] / Fülöp Stipkovits</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/fortepan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fortepan</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Budapest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Budapest</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Hungary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hungary</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/%C3%93buda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Óbuda</span></a></p>
Paul H :tinoflag:<p>Budapest, 1955. Not generally known, but the creation of Budapest as a single city in 1873 was the union of three cities, not two: Pest, Buda, and Óbuda, or old Buda in English. Located to the north of Buda along the Danube, Óbuda was where the Romans settled at around 41 AD. You can still visit the ruins of their site today in what is known as Aquincum.</p><p>Source: Fortepan [229799] / Fortepan/Album083</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/fortepan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fortepan</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/%C3%93buda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Óbuda</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Budapest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Budapest</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Buda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Buda</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/hungary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hungary</span></a></p>
Paul H :tinoflag:<p>Budapest, 1971. People often criticise the large housing estates of the Soviet era countries like Hungary. But what they don't see is the aging, run-down, energy inefficient housing stock it replaced which was incapable of housing a growing, increasingly prosperous and urban population. </p><p>Fortepan [47352] / Óbudai Múzeum</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/fortepan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fortepan</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Hungary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hungary</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Budapest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Budapest</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/%C3%93buda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Óbuda</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/housing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>housing</span></a></p>
