The power of ADSB tracking having very real impact on politics.

@ai6yr Huh, I've been running an #ADSB stack (dump1090-fa, piaware, feeder to adsbfi) for just over two years now, pretty much non-stop and my SD card is still doing fine without any special tricks to minimize writes.
I'm just using a SanDisk ultra 16GB which is ~30% full.
I had a cheap Staples brand card give up on me after just a few months when I ran a Zabbix monitoring server on it, but I think besides the bottom-of-the-barrel NAND-flash it was the round-robin files that killed it.
The DC midair collision was captured on camera by several witnesses.
Footage shows the American Airlines flight apparently on final approach being struck by the BlackHawk helicopter.
The Blackhawk was not broadcasting an ADS-B position.
Following this RyanAIR flight that looks like something's gone wrong. It's flying about over Benbecula just now
If it's the weekend, let's code a bit and write a lot about the little coding that was done...

FAA makes it harder for people to track billionaires/celebrity jets... And exempts those IDs from FOIA.
(of course, I'm sure enterprising tracking folks can just park their ADSB receiver next to specific airports and wait for the planes to fly by to crib the 20-day ID, if they REALLY wanted to).

If you use iOS and FlightRadar24, I've a Shortcut that’ll take a geotagged photo and load FR24 playback. Use at your own peril as it involves timezones. Add it to the share sheet, go to Photos, share a geotagged photo, and send it to Photo to FlightRadar24 Playback https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/abad37c237984805a473cb15617c271e #FlightRadar24 #AvGeek #ADSB #iOS #Shortcuts @flightradar24
My ADSB receiver has been plugging away, yay. It should be helping with tracking all the helicopters and planes here in the area (pumping data everywhere, except ADSBExchange, because I'm still annoyed at the sellout). #ADSB #wildfires #firewx
@RL_Dane @OpenComputeDesign @NanoRaptor I can recommend an #RTL-#SDR as cheap COTS solution.
Sellers like Nooelec have those simple Rx-only dongles and worst-case you can use one to setup an #ADSB tracker...
Also related to this SDR journey, I am looking at getting a satellite dish, and this one seems to fit the bill, but it's not available for sale yet. Bummer. Anyway I will find uses for Raspberry Pi's in the near future running over PoE.
