The #Asheville Watchdog has an excellent story about yesterday's #HandsOff protest here, where they estimated 7,500 people attended, the largest protest in the city in a decade.

Another good story, this time from ABC news about the huge protests yesterday all across the nation.
Great shot of #Asheville, and all the people in Pack Square. You can see us clearly as tiny blobs behind a tree way up the right side of the crowd.

A better article from the #MountainXpress here in #Asheville about our #HandsOff protest event today.
Mostly photos, but they got some good ones. We saw a lot of these people. They don't say how many people, but definitely thousands.
And here is the #Asheville local TV station, WLOS ignoring what is happening here and all across the nation. A Sinclair station.
We met up with our neighbor for a couple of hours, and she was smart enough, before leaving, to go down to towards the stage and shoot UP the hill, so you got a better feel for all the people there in Pack Square in #asheville today for #HandsOff.
Much better pictures than any of mine.
A couple more crowd scenes from the #asheville #HandsOff protest today.
First one shows a sign in red held by a man, reading "Let's Make America Great Depression Again" while the other is carried by a woman and read "Ugh, Where Do I Even Start"
In the Biltmore Estate Gardens, the hibiscus stands out as a breathtaking focal point among the estate’s meticulously curated floral displays. Nestled among lush greenery and historic landscapes, these large, velvety blooms add a bold splash of color to the Walled Garden, Italian Garden, and Conservatory.

Just walked to my car in the parking lot and it is super smokey. Smells like campfire. Heavy Haze and you can tell it's not a good thing to be breathing this...
An update from #Asheville #Buncombe county:
"Buncombe County 4:15 p.m. Friday update:
The fire on Old Fort Road is 85% contained. Continue to avoid the area.
The Freedom Farm Fire is 100% contained, and all resources are cleared.
Traffic impacts from the lane closures on I-240 and I-26 are high. Check drivenc.gov for real-time traffic updates. The Transfer Station will be open on Saturday. "
I believe that last traffic-related issue was due to the quick spin-up of a fire at the landfill which has basically shut down a whole chunk of this side of town.
The Freedom Farm fire was our closest, so happy about its containment. #NCwx

Here is a screencap from a video someone took from the SW region outside of #Asheville.
The fires are closer and you can see the glow at night. The smoke is much worse as well.
This is the #Buncombe County fire near Leicester at Dix Creek.
We're up to 7 fires now in the area: 3 in Polk (longest-term) 1 each in Swain, Jackson, Haywood and Buncombe counties.
The winds here SW of #Asheville have dropped, and the smoke is now settling in. My outdoor sensor jumped from 4 to 29 for PM2.5
This may affect our plans to finally go for a hike tomorrow morning.
From my #Asheville county government
"This is an important update regarding wildfire activity currently affecting #Buncombe County. Due to recent weather conditions the risk of wildfires has increased significantly in our area.
Currently, there is a 2 acre wildfire in the Dix Creek / Leicester area of Buncombe County. Crews are on scene and the public is asked to avoid the area.
We urge all residents to remain vigilant and take immediate precautions to protect lives and property. "
Well, well, well, look at little #Asheville, with all of our recent flooding and all of our dams, all the help the orange pos promised us!
Great.
Morning. Power out since 4:30sm but no damage. A noisy windy rainy night.
Strange throwback to October.
Making French press coffee.
About 10:20pm Saturday, and I'm off. It's still getting closer, but definitely taking its time. Peak wind today was 18.2mph so far.
Thanks to everyone who checked in, and stay safe, #Asheville #NCwx
#Asheville, I know it's been an overcast, grubby sort of day, but I hope you're paying attention now, because this storm is almost here.
Many tornadoes to our west, and a lot of wind and rain coming. Please stay aware and be somewhere safe.
