FANSI had its own file format -- .FAN -- which I'm hoping to write a parser for.
I learned something new today from Eric March about the .FAN format.
The first ~6K is character data -- every character, along with its FG and BG color, for the 80 columns and 24 lines.
But the final 30K is bitmap data -- a full screen dump of the image as it is displayed in the editor.
Why?

Recently I've been working on a fork of libansilove and ansilove-c that adds support for using fonts and color palettes derived from the Atari ST programs ANSIterm and FANSI.
FANSI was a really slick ANSI editor for the ST from Eric March.
It was a godsend to me as a teen when it was released in 1994. Finally I had a way to draw my own ANSI art in the full 16 colors.
If only it had come out a few years earlier!

Or, if you don't want the hassle of extracting ZIP files, copying to floppies, or firing up an emulator, NO WORRIES. We made a nine-minute video with all the pack's content.

One of the cool things about IGS is that — just like RIPscrip — the files contain their own drawing history. So even "static" images can be a sort of animation as you watch them draw/render. This video will let you see that process for each image.
Celebrate the new year with a fun new artpack: IGNITE 01!
This pack celebrates "Instant Graphics and Sound," a unique Atari ST-specific corner of BBS history, with 18 new images and animations for your viewing pleasure.

Stressful holiday? How about relaxing with some quality #retrocomputing #longreads?
Discover the community that made cool art and games in the 80s/90s using a little-known protocol for Atari ST bulletin boards, called "Instant Graphics and Sound."

EstyJs is an #Atari ST emulator written in #javascript that runs in your browser.
I've been working on a new IGS animation involving this guy, who was pretty popular back during IGS heyday in the early 1990s.
Animation is pretty tough, but some of the constraints imposed by the IGS format (plus my own personal constraints) are making really hard. It's also challenging to draw these sprites!
But I think I've finally landed on a sequence of events I can draw -- and make fit in the available space.
Megaroids is one of my favorite games for the Atari ST. Always was.
Am I alone, in this?
I'm still seeking pixel art-y folks to draw in IGS format. I want to release the world's first all-IGS artpack!

Excited to see Kai Eckert take over the old “EstyJS” in-browser Atari ST emulator.
Looks like some of the issues I first reported 10 years ago may get addressed! I look forward to being able to use this on the Break Into Chat blog down the road.
Sometimes I program weird designs in #AtariST GFA BASIC and when I look back on my creations I wonder what I was thinking. One of those looks moderately obscene.
A new release of #zeST is available! On the menu: support for a new FPGA board, improved floppy management, and bug fix.
Enjoy!
I'll drop a post and some snaps later today outlining my #beltandbraces methods for recovering data on old #AtariST #floppydisks using a #USB #floppydrive, #GNU #ddrescue, #Hatari and the #SidecarTridge hard disk emulation.
Future Wars celebrates its 35th anniversary this month!
I loved this game so much
One of the greatest adventure games ever made. Both beautiful and innovative.
Happiness comes from blinking lights. #AtariST
A pyramid piece by Steve Turnbull, called "XNET_LST.IG", is a trippy tour-de-force — the most amazing IGS animation ever created, in my opinion. Full of details, it showcases every trick Turnbull had learned over the last two years.
