Re: #3dprinting & #3dDesign

I've become ... 'better ' at it, but one of the core things I'm missing is how folks do design when it needs to work with other complex parts.
For example; My #3dprinter is basically a custom component at this point. I had to design the sled to use with the rails, every component outside of the bed-base and the extrusion frame is custom or customized.

I'm looking at making a big upgrade to the hot end but nobody makes my part, and I need a cooling solution. So how do I design a fan/duct system that mounts to my hot end mount, fits all the pieces and is the right length?

It seems incredibly daunting to have to #CAD up the entire assembly from scratch. But other folks do this... Somehow? If I look for cooling solutions on any print-sharing website there are thousands of them.

What am I missing here? 🙁

The most useful and the most annoying thing about CAD software, is that there are many different approaches towards getting designs made, each of which has similar, but different, workflows.

Identifying which worflow that you are using, which workflow that you need, and, not getting them mixed up, is an exercise, in and of itself... :D

Here is my latest machining project. In the upper left corner it shows a letter holder with handle attached. This four inch, single line letter holder is what my letter sets come with. I made two six inch letter holders so I can stamp book bindings and I made dual line letter holders so I can stamp multiple lines at the same time. The letter slots are tricky because of the small size and tight tolerance. My instructors loved I was making this for practical use.
