Mysterious authors' brains. 🧠 I'm writing a new blog article. My brief: nothing about politics today! We need courage. Then the text takes me by the hand.
I read about a blocked drain and come across tiny seeds. And how is that supposed to become a meaningful text? The text giggles: 'you will see'.

I like it when my texts know more than me. 😁 🤯
ed: nearly ready. The grain became the 🤫 🌱 🤫

so my sister, who was raised by our alcoholic father – I was not – has climbed out of a long period of self-destructive behavior and gotten healthy. She is dealing with her trauma and actively pursuing a dream. Today she reached out to me asking to talk about some very difficult things in our past that have gotten the way of us ever developing the kind of relationship we both wanted. We ended up, over the course of a couple of hours of texting and talking, confessing and apologizing and understanding and forgiving. I feel so much lighter. I feel a surge of creative energy. The flow has already begun.

☝️ I am so fekkin tired of people carefully explaining to me why something is hard for disabled people. We KNOW.

What we need is for you to turn around and say to the people making the decisions (even within your own business or org):

📢"Oi! This shit is hard for disabled people. Fix it!"

We need your advocacy, not your head pats.

Newbie Courage Badge
It's not the winning or losing that counts as much as the trying. Taking that chance and reaching for your dreams. Finding the courage to try new things, especially scary new things. It can be anything. Like standing up for something or someone you believe in, even if you are in the minority. Taking a chance on learning a daunting new skill. Meeting new people. The list is endless, but can be truly rewarding when you take that first step.

"Beautiful Souls: Saying No, Breaking Ranks, and Heeding the Voice of Conscience in Dark Times" by Eyal Press is a book I first read a dozen years ago. I've been thinking about it lately, because its lessons seem more relevant than ever in our present situation.

It's about the willingness of individuals to stand against the tide, to say, "Nope, not going along with this", when confronted with immoral or unethical demands.

What impact can a single person have? How can one person stop an avalanche? This book shows us cases where someone wasn't paralyzed by that question, but did the obviously right thing anyway, under the pressure of surrounding group conformity.

I wrote about this book in more detail at that time, in a book blog I was keeping then. I think I want to re-read it again now, and to recommend it to others.

My spouse has spent time this morning talking to people working within Catholic immigration services for which he has written grants. They tell him there's anguish among religious groups working to protect immigrants. They know what's coming.

But as I noted, even knowing this was coming, 60% of white Catholics still voted for Trump — voted for him BECAUSE they knew this was coming.

As Melissa Ryan says, the courage Mariann Budde shows is something we haven't seen much since Trump's election.

We have not seen it from corporate media. We won't see it there.

We won't see it from business elites — far from it.

We won't this kind of courage among the 80% of white evangelicals and 60% of white Catholics who voted for Trump, or from most leaders in that sector of US Christianity.

"It took the courage of one woman to change the conversation around Donald Trump."

~ Melissa Ryan

And to those coming to this thread to scoff and laugh because this courageous woman speaks out of her religious conviction, let me say one thing:

We see you. We see how you amplify Trump by laughing at the courage of a woman speaking up against him.

And we won't forget.
