Weekend reading! I'm really enjoying The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones at about halfway through. Next up is a novella - Rosalie Oaks' The Selkie Scandal - which should be a good light read. #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
More books! Mark Hayden & Richard Osman are both reliably excellent reads. Deathless by Catherynne Valente was a dark but compelling Russian fairytale set in the 20th Century. Not an easy read but an excellent one nonetheless. For less woolly star ratings, I'm now on storygraph (law_geek) #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
Looking forward to starting these. First is Julie Kenner. It's been years since I last read one of hers so I hope I remember the backstory. They were rare for being middle-aged suburban mum fantasy books when she started out. Tirzah Price is new to me but supposed to be fun. #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
Weekend reading! If a British, supernatural Reacher type but with a dodgy sense of humour & an even dodgier leg sounds like your thing, you should really try Mark Hayden. The Seventh Star is his 7th book (counting down from 13) &, as usual, I'm enjoying it a lot. #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
February book round up. I absolutely loved The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers by Samuel Burr & The Second Chance by Charlotte Butterfield, with Deathless by Catherynne Valente & A Complication of Unicorns by Kim Watt just behind #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
I'm #CurrentlyReading _Iron Sunrise_ by Charles Stross
I've had the book ever since it came out in mass-market paperback, and read it then. But now I've read _Singularity Sky_, I am catching more references. And of course it's been so long I might as well be reading a new book.

I had _Iron Sunrise_ for years, then got fed up having not read the prior book, bought it, and it sat on my shelf for a couple years. Now I need to sit calmly with a physical book, so here I am.

Weekend reading! Two UK based books this time, both supposed to be excellent. Samuel Burr is certainly living up to my expectations at the halfway mark #amreading #weekendreading #currentlyreading #bookstodon #books
"There in Peredelkino, on the ground floor of his dacha, lying on his narrow camp bed, Boris Pasternak was dying, killed by the Nobel Prize. In more than half a century since the prize was first given, the Russian poet was the first person it had killed." -- from 'A Dictator Calls' by Ismail Kadare, trans. John Hodgson
Like most people I first heard of the unspeakable crimes of Dominique Pericot when he stood trial last year. This book by his daughter is harrowing but is incredibly courageous and important. Read it if you can.

Weekend reading! Shadowstitch is...ok. The plot's fine, although does it really need 650 pages, but the characters are so annoying. Yes, it's YA, but my god, they're annoying. I nearly dnf'ed at 28 pages. They're *that* annoying. Next up is Sarah Painter's second in series, The Book Keeper. Book 1 was very good, so I'm hopeful #amreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon

While the government is hurrying to cover-up Black history, I am going to take the time to read some more Black history.
Don't stop learning.
I'm re-reading BELLWETHER: A Novel by Connie Willis.
It's my ultimate nerd book. Would love to see it done as a movie with a few updates. #Bookstodon #Books #CurrentlyReading #ScienceFiction

Weekend reading! A couple of light reads this weekend. First up is Lindsay Buroker's first in series, which is good so far, and then the third of Ramy Vance's troll PI books (the first two of which were entertaining) #amreading #weekendreading #currentlyreading #books #bookstodon
