My visualisation of Australian fruit and veg seasonality made the Information is Beautiful awards longlist.
As the food bowl of Australia was flooded thanks to #CycloneAlfred, the information in the guide may be off for a bit until we recover!

divergent boundaries sketch for today's creative coding group at the RC.
I started with the thought of an ocean floor splitting - a divergent boundary.
Despite living in an archipelagic country, I still haven’t stepped foot on a lot of islands. Maybe Bohol, Palawan, or Taiwan could be next?
(This poster concept is an alternative take on those travel lists/maps where you list islands/continents instead of countries.)
Because the rhombic triacontahedron, which consists of 30 identical rhombi, is a Catalan solid, it means that it has an inscribed sphere (aka insphere) which makes creating a world map easy: just render a gnomonic map for each face!
So I used #D3js to render 30 different gnomonic maps and quite a bit of trigonometric skills to assemble the final map as a polyhedral net.
I then printed it, cut and folded it, et voilà! I now have a nifty 30-sided globe!

#30DayMapChallenge Day
: 2 colors
As soon as I read this day’s theme, I knew I had to do the obvious next iteration of the map I did for last year’s “Black and white” theme¹, which is to render the Red and Yellow Seas in red and yellow
and in the same scale!
I basically just used the process I did last year but used #D3js instead of #QGIS for rendering the map, but practically everything else is the same including using #NaturalEarth as my data source.
Hi, sfba.social! Allow me to #introduction myself.
I just moved here from pdx.social. I can’t be summed up in a single toot, but… I love #design, #architecture, #photography, #redwoods, the #California coast, #neurodiversity, and #inclusive systems. Oh, and #parenting my three brilliantly unique kids (the hardest work I’ve ever done) and really bad puns.
My life’s work is building Oolie, our family business and Certified #BCorp helping families sleep better with #organic bedding and baby products. I hope you’ll check us out.
In my former career, I was into online learning, creative coding, and data visualization, even publishing a couple of books. I still love that stuff (#DataVis #Processing #p5js #d3js #JavaScript), but that feels like 1M years ago.
Expect to see posts about everything mentioned above!
Big thanks to the SFBA @moderators for having me.
New data viz! Can I Eat It Yet? A visual guide to seasonal fruit and veg in Australia.
https://didoesdigital.com/growing/seasonality/
I made this to learn more about food seasonality and answer questions like…
Why are capsicums so expensive? How far did they travel to get here? Interstate? From overseas?!
When should I buy fresh blueberries vs frozen?
Grapes cost how much!? When can I start buying them again?
New data viz! Living among snakes in Queensland, Australia
https://didoesdigital.com/snakes/
I'm stoked to share my story of snake shenanigans with fun facts, silly animations, and a few happy snaps (opt in!)
Made with #d3js, scrollama, and laughs.
