Can someone use #AI or #OCR to get the actual numbers into #alttext ?

As a #blind #voter who encountered issues at the polls this #election cycle, this information would have helped me greatly. I went to #vote on the first day of #EarlyVoting

Our county uses #verity voting equipment. This includes an #ATI - #AudioTactileInterface. A #voter can listen to the ballot in any of the four supported languages and use a dial and button to make their selections.

Because of past experience with intrusive #ElectionWorkers, the first thing I do is turn off the screen. It didn't help this time.

My particular #ballot style had 72 items. I don't remember the number of the item I was on, (First Court of Appeals, Place 9) when one election worker told another that I would need help. I said aloud that I did not need help, and that, if I did, I could ask for help at that time. Someone said that the machine might "time out" (which is not true - this is a misunderstanding - when a voter is qualified, they get a code to enter into the machine. That code expires after 30 minutes. I'd already entered it). At that point, I very carefully completed my ballot, then took the time to ensure my selections for all ballot items were as I intended. It took me about an hour overall.

I tried to file an #ADA #complaint. I asked the election workers for the complaint form. They did not provide it, and did not believe they had such a thing (they are supposed to, I've served as an #ElectionJudge - there is a stack of them in the same folder as the required ADA information that is to be posted).

They gave me a phone number to call, and the person taking my report understood me to say the equipment had timed out, so the fix was to replace it.

The ADA complaint form is also on the website, where I did complete it. I wish I'd had a voter protection number to call.

As election offices struggle to staff the polls this year out of #safety concerns, #Illinois voters will be able to weigh in on a measure that would increase penalties for anyone who interferes w/ #ElectionWorkers’ duties.

The “stolen election” #BigLie from #Trump & his supporters has meant that in swing states across the country, #election officials are quitting or retiring after facing an onslaught of #threats & #harassment.

Judge Orders #Giuliani to Forfeit Millions in Assets to #ElectionWorkers He #Defamed

The onetime personal attorney to #Trump has seven days to turn over his Manhattan condo, a vintage Mercedes-Benz & other possessions.

A federal judge on Tues ordered Rudolph W. Giuliani to turn over most of his possessions & available cash to a receivership controlled by the 2 #Georgia election workers he defamed after the last presidential #election.

The New York Times · Judge Orders Giuliani to Forfeit Millions in Assets to Election Workers He DefamedBy Eileen Sullivan

#EarlyVoting starts tomorrow in #Texas.

I will #vote. And I will vote in every race. It goes from general to specific. The folks at the top are your national and state office-holders, and the folks at the bottom are the ones who are in charge of the parts of government you interact with most. Tax Assessor-Collector manages property tax. The county clerk does more than manage elections. Their office does licenses and DBAs and so on.

Also, I will take my (adult) #child to vote. Their child (my #grandchild) will come along., too. There is a video that explains how the voting machines work (youtu.be/9dvFaVxSjtI). I plan to watch outside with my grandson while my daughter votes. The only major update is that it will be one page of ballot paper. When I was training to work this election, they said the printout was reorganized to print two columns or something, so there will only be one sheet.

My #parents took me along when they voted. And, when there was an #election that used the school gymnasium as a polling location, our teacher would take us to see the voting booths. If there weren't voters present, the #electionWorkers would explain how the machines worked.

Because my father was totally #blind, my mother would go into the booth with my father. She would guide his hands to the levers and tell him what each one said, so he could vote for whom he chose and it would be secret from anyone outside the booth, because they heard all the candidates' names.

When I wa a preschooler, he ran for county judge (and lost). I remember the posters and him talking with a bullhorn.

When I was older, he would take me to political fundraisers. Because of this, I can actually list some of the things my then #CongressCritter and #senator supported.

I'm proud to say I'll be voting for #kamala and #ColinAllred. I will also be voting for #Democrats in all my local races.
