Moved into this house a couple years ago. We knew the door tio the staircase was too short so ripped out the header in probably the first 6 months...and then it sat there, wood/nails exposed, for FAR too long.
I finally got the spark to get it finished! It still needs plaster and paint but the tear out & rebuild is complete 😄

The trestles have been invaluable since working on the new house. Especially when disassembling/re-assembling the big armoire that came with the master bedroom and rises to the ceiling. I had no ladder to reach the brackets that were on top.

Lugging the ash trestles up and down flights of stairs has probably added to the weight loss.

Helpful in cutting doors, too. I’ll have another two or three of those to do later when getting to the main entry. 🪚

The upstairs bedroom has the access to what is currently the ‘back attic’. It’s a small entry about ¾ the size of a normal door, proportionally. It has two particle board doors on each side of the casing. The external one is unpainted and bears mold. The internal one is painted and clean. I intend to make a proper door for this entry in warmer weather if we don’t find a used one first.

Until then…

Okay home repair Fedi, I need some advice:

I need to mount a doorbell camera to brick. I don't want to drill. Is there a good adhesive to attach the mounting bracket to the brick that is strong enough to deter anyone from trying to yank it off but not too strong so I can eventually remove it as upgrades are needed? Maybe some kind of caulk?

Thermal imaging proved useful. We knew we were leaking most of the heat out of the foundation, but we did not know about the cold gaps between the floor boards.

Quick solution will be some cheap linoleum flooring until we get around to ripping out the floors entirely in perhaps two years time.

The other room has linoleum on top of the floor boards and it doesn't have this problem.

You can even see the crossbeams underneath!

Alright, time for a fresh #introduction . My name is Rynn, I'm a network administrator by day, weird animal on the internet by night!

Here are some fast facts about me:

Moved from lycanmatriarch@tech.lgbt

#polyamorous - wielding dual partners

#asexual - grey, my horny cannot be quelled by mortals

#autistic / #adhd - Therapist was way more helpful than the Neuropyschologist

I've been doing IT for over a decade now and I regularly post about #linux #plex #cloud #infosec #zfs and other tech screaming. I also draw, make pokemon sprites from perler beads, and futz with #homeimprovement projects in my ~120 year old house.

In other news, can someone point me to the precise brush or whatever tool one needs to apply polyurethane varnish smoothly to a hardwood floor, ideally on Bunnings or Mitre 10's website?

The tin says "apply with brush or roller". The first coat, I tried a standard bristle brush: it left streaks. The second coat, I used a roller: it left tiny bubbles, now pockmarks.

Looking for someone that has first hand experience with 120v #InfraredHeating panels.

I have my TV setup in my basement, which is nice in the summer, but a little chilly in the winter.

Getting a ceiling mounted (400watt? 800watt?) panel and mounting it over the sofa _feels_ like it might be far more efficient than using a space heater to heat up all the air molecules in my basement.
