Finally we've been needing this and I'm too lazy to start it myself!
Humboldt Repair Cafe
The first Humboldt Repair Cafe will be on April 6 from 10-2 at the Arcata Community Center. We've got volunteers to help fix your clothes, bikes, jewelry, furniture, electronics and small appliances. We plan to make this a monthly event.

Check out Rose City Band if they’re coming through your town! Classic psychedelic rock meets Laurel Canyon. Good times. Great vibes. #arcata #humboldt #livemusic
Now that his leg seems to have healed we've started exploring the newly public MCSD park on the east edge of mckinleyville. Folks in the community have clearly put some effort into fixing a couple little bridges, making pretty signs, etc. I'd love to get rid of a bunch of the pampas grass and ivy that are killing all the local plants/ trees. If my shoulders ever heal maybe I'll come try to work on that. Hm. Maybe.

Got to Eureka this AM and learned it has more galleries & co-ops than expected. Like, an absurd amount for its size! VERY robust arts community here.
Made it to a farmers market, Explored some of Old Town, got great food, & then drove around the area. Intrigued thus far! More exploring tomorrow!
Didn’t get any good pics of our explorations today in Eureka itself—there’s plenty of that online already. But I will say it’s small-town(ish) vibe is endearing, and the two folks we asked about the community say that folks who “buy into” the community have a tendency to be deeply committed to it. I think that’s very evident by the activism, initiatives, and small businesses here… So that’s a plus!
It's been a while since I've been to the Arcata Farmers Market. I probably spent too much. Bootlegger Bagels wasn't there but I did score this giant cauliflower for 4 bucks and Sand Dune honey! I don't know what Sand Dune honey tastes like but I'm excited to try it.

Sorry folks, it's all my fault. Yesterday I was doing a fire inspection for a church and I recommended they install emergency lights because we do have a lot of earthquakes here in Ferndale.
There is a #tsunami warning for much of the NorthCoast, but as of yet, no clear indication that a tsunami was actually produced or will arrive. You should still evacuate if you're in a tsunami warning zone and stay away until given the all clear.
An expert from NWS was just on https://kmud.org saying we likely won't know for another 30 minutes (i.e. ~12:15 PST) whether a tsunami is coming and, if so, how big.
Saying this because I'm seeing lots of people claiming a tsunami is "coming".
https://tsunami.gov for updates.
Looks like it was now situated 60 miles off the coast, so more like 80-90 miles from my place.
It was on the Mendocino transform fault, right where the Cascadia Subduction Zone meets the San Andreas Fault system.
https://kmud.org the local community radio station in the area is doing regular alerts and they have a local geologist on live now.
Pretty bummed that I missed it. I actually like feeling earthquakes.
I am a little bit worried about my place. Haven't heard back from my house sitter. I'm mostly worried about a bunch of shit falling off the shelves or if the concrete cracked and severed one of the hydronic tubes, which could cause a massive leak.
On the other hand, my house is built on what seems to be a fairly stable piece of ground. Valley bottom, but with what passes for bedrock pretty close to the surface. Many other previous 5+ quakes have caused zero damage.
I ran to the post office while I had a break from the rain.
Just down the road a piece from the post office is where I stop to check out the Eel River.
A week ago I tooted river photos.
What a difference a week made.
Lots of water flowing super fast. I saw a couple of logs float by while I was taking pictures.
Today and seven days ago to compare.

From the Mendocino coast we look out over the Pacific ocean and off in the far distance is California's Lost Coast, which is home to Sasquatch.
