Growth in global energy demand surged in 2024 to almost twice its recent average

"The [#IEA] report finds that global #EnergyDemand rose by 2.2% last year – lower than GDP growth of 3.2% but considerably faster than the average annual demand increase of 1.3% between 2013 and 2023. Emerging and developing economies accounted for over 80% of the increase in global #energy demand in 2024."

Très bon article résumant le dernier rapport de l'#AIE (Agence Internationale de l'Energie). Lecture vraiment recommandée. Selon ces prédictions les émissions de #CO2 mondiales devraient atteindre leur pic incessament sous peu (bascule dès 2025), mais pas du tout baisser au rythme nécessaire pour rester sous les 1,5 ni même les 2° de réchauffement d'ici la fin du siècle (2,4° projeté).

Toutefois, le #solaire en particulier devrait selon eux exploser, et devenir la première source d'énergie dès le milieu des années 2030.

Pour être sur une trajectoire 1,5°, le "couloir est très étroit, mais c'est faisable".

Tripling renewable energy capacity is ‘within reach,’ report says

"The world can triple #RenewableEnergy capacity this decade, but it’ll need a lot more batteries and power lines.

Taking current policies and technology trends into consideration, countries are so far on track to secure more than three-quarters of the growth needed to triple renewable energy capacity this decade, the #IEA says."
