Just a small bit of self indulging between commissions. I love these two so much, I can't get enough of Mymble and her cat. I'm so happy they met in the new series.

My pencil sketch take on Moomin. I think of him as Charlie Brown in Snoopy’s body.
“Dear Moomintroll,
Once again, the time has come for me to leave the valley, and make for the Lonely Mountains.
We all need to be alone sometimes. I’m sure you understand.
So, until the spring, farewell and happy hibernating.
Your friend,
Snufkin”
… and Misabel!
As soon as I see her, I KNOW I’n gonna laugh out loud!
#RebeccaRoot is the actor, I’ll have to learn more about them! Hilarious!
.
I haven’t mentioned the cast; the characters are so developed, I don’t think of them as existing outside of #Moominvalley … except for #RosamundPike as Moominmama, who portrays her with the gravity her character deserves. She is fabulous!
That they are able to express that nuance between Little My and Snork — that they don’t just come across as two smartasses — is credit to the writing and great acting in #Moominvalley !
Little My and Snork are much alike in that they call things as they see them, but Little My is salty, while Snork is VERY DRY.
…. & the way he builds a friendship wirh Misabel!
Well, it just makes perfect sense!
I love them all. I confess I was hesitant with this show, because I’d read that a character was now coded as neurodivergent, but it turns out I absolutely adore Snork!
Especially when he sketches! I feel respectfully represented! And again, that would have meant so much as a child! These stories DID mean so much! They still DO!
They *do* try to fit in every #autism trope, but if I had Snork available as representation as a kid, I would have been OVER THE MOON!
(I know he’s in the books, but not spelled-out as neurodivergent, if I recall correctly)
I love that he resents the performative niceties of life, instead choosing direct, honest communication… Moomin is telling him what he needs to change about himself to make friends, and Snork patiently explains that, if he changed to “make friends”, it wasn’t *him* they’d be friends with.
I love that he sketches out his ideas, and the show makes a point of letting us SEE those sketches. I love that he has a whole organized and tidy workspace. I don’t; it’s aspirational… and now I have a role model for that goal.
Snork — more identifiable as #ActuallyAutistic than in the books — explains to Moomin how he sees the world.
Moominmama paints a mural on the lighthouse walls, to make it feel more like home.
This shot of Moominmama reminds me of a #Vermeer painting.
I’m thinking of something I read about how, for many readers, #LittleMy was their first encounter with a woman who does and says what she pleases.
