A reminder that our Spring Art Fair is this coming weekend, 12th & 13th April, in the Octagon, Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, open 10am to 4pm.
You may hear reports that the A515 is closed this weekend at the Brierlow Bar junction. A, not too onerous, diversion will be in place via Old Coal Pit Lane and the A6 - Buxton is not cut off! We are really looking forward to seeing you all 😊

I'm planning some #EnPleinAir #PaintingWithYarn and following the theme I thought a Derbyshire quarry might be a good subject. This is a #Millersdale Quarry (now a nature reserve) just off the #MonsalTrail I had a nosy around today as the morning light was good - some great shadows. A bit chilly to sit around today, but an option when the weather warms. NB #PhonePhotos so not brilliant!

Sometimes atmospheric haze can almost work in your favour. I always quite liked the way the different hills are given different tones to the different amount of haze they're viewed behind in this one.

Still: carry a yellow filter. You don't have to (and shouldn't) use it all the time, but goddamn, you'll kick yourself when you need one and don't have it.

Not long after this was taken, I scrambled off down the hill to take the photo of the bridge from a couple of days ago. The sheep weren't impressed. Neither was my mother, to be honest.

Here's another view of yesterday's viaduct at Monsal Dale. This isn't the best photo I've ever taken by any means, but I thought it was worth posting because it illustrates one very important thing: *yellow filters aren't just to make clouds look pretty*.

Carry one. They're basically mandatory in hazy and hilly landscapes. I didn't know this in 2013. I do now.

This week PDA returned to Chatsworth Stables Gift Shop for another Showcase in the Shop which will run until 2nd Mar 2025
With over 20 members exhibiting this is a wonderful opportunity to browse and buy a range of work including #FineArt #Jewellery #Textiles #Ceramics #photography & #Glass. Staffed by two exhibiting artists each day the Showcase is open 10.30am to 4.30pm daily.

Well for the last 3 days I've been welding to keep warm! This chap is made from engine & plough/harrow parts with the odd nut, bolt & spanner. He's a seat for the Toll Bar Fish & Chip Shop in #StoneyMiddleton #PeakDistrict who had their original one vandalised on Boxing Day😢 I've named him "Steel Stanley" after my much missed Spoodle whom I lost to a stroke a couple of months ago. He'll be powder-coated next week as I don't want anyone getting a rusty bottom! #recycle #metalwork #MansBestFriend

I love living in the #PeakDistrict and the #snow is very pretty today but boy is it stressful getting anywhere! Life goes on though and I have managed to get my son to Buxton station most days this week. Main roads are generally OK, unless its actively snowing, but the roads out of our village can be very dodgy - see last image of shiny ice!
