My review of Contra Amatores Mundi: A Gothic Fantasy by Graham Thomas Wilcox just went up at Grimdark Magazine! A bombastic, operatic, gory tale of two knights trapped in a strange realm, delivered by one of the editors of the excellent dark fantasy magazine Old Moon Quarterly.

Grimdark Magazine · REVIEW: Contra Amatores Mundi by Graham Thomas WilcoxContra Amatores Mundi: A Gothic Fantasy by Graham Thomas Wilcox is a gory grimdark opera with style and spectacle.

I reviewed Conan: Battle of the Black Stone #3 for Grimdark Magazine! Writer Jim Zub thins the herd in an over-crowded miniseries, but—put bluntly—watching classic Robert E. Howard characters go out like punks hasn’t been a great time.

(As always, boosts are appreciated!)

Grimdark Magazine · REVIEW: Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone #3Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone #3 begins with the Heroes of Man reeling from the loss of two of their own.

Excluding a handful of reviews published in magazines with remaining exclusivity periods, my fantasy/horror book review archive blog has been brought up to date!

My review of Conan the Barbarian #15 just went up at Grimdark Magazine!

A strong issue, but I was bummed to see Zub do a Howard adaptation after all the talk about not being a “cover band.” Also, while I mostly like Doug Braithwaite’s art, I don’t think he was up to the task of illustrating an unearthly beauty like Atali (pointy knees, etc.).

(As always, boosts are appreciated!)

Grimdark Magazine · REVIEW: Conan the Barbarian #15Conan the Barbarian #15 is the strongest issue in the Frozen Faith arc thus far... Only time will tell, but the Frozen Faith storyline and this particular issue may come to represent a significant transition in the Titan Comics incarnation of Conan the Barbarian.
