RT @EckerleIsabella@x.com: »My opinion & I will die on this hill: The current anti-vaccine movement will have a major impact on women and will reverse women's rights. When women have to produce extra babies because 1 in 5 will not survive, they will not have energy or time to fight for equality anymore.

While being pregnant, postpartum, caring for many children, caring for a sick child, grieving deceased ones & fearing their siblings dying as well, women will be drained of energy & will not fight oppression. Without vaccines, a lot of healthy children will not survive their early childhood period.

In addition, not providing vaccines will disproportionally affect vulnerable children: While many perfectly healthy children will die, those with underlying conditions are even at higher risk. Not protecting them will shorten their life. We've seen it already during Covid.

I just want to stress this: Most of society is not aware in which a luxury situation vaccines has put parents in only the last few decades, that is, not seeing your young children die. If you don't believe me, read books about the polio period, or visit an old graveyard. It's all there.«

@kwleslie

our world is founded on

"why it's important to #vaccinate"

"why it's important to #vote"

"why it's important to have #friends and #allies"

etc

and people not born of the #suffering that created these lessons, and proudly #ignorant of #history, don't know, don't care, and amazingly, *organize* on this willful ugliness

oh, they will learn

again

the hard way

and those of us who already know why these things are important will suffer as well, dragged along by the evil and stupid

This is a photo of 4 little grave stones in a historic cemetery. Next to them a marker shares with us that these 4 children, siblings, all died in a two week span in 1888. We don’t know of what. Smallpox, diphtheria, whooping cough, measles? Flu? Mumps? #vaccinate

Gang, I’m 70. I had mumps when I was three. Measles when I was seven. Whooping cough when I was, I think 10? Maybe 11. I only hazily remember mumps. Measles, I missed the 1st two weeks of second grade. I remember the doctor making a house call. Then I was just totally out of it for two weeks. I remember when my mother took the blankets off the windows and I blinked at how bright the light was. I had whooping cough for a miserable week before she took me to the doctor. No money. Before Medicaid. I couldn't breathe. I coughed out every bit of air, sucked in as much air as I could, but then coughed it right out again. That's why I got the Covid vaccine as soon as I could. Remembering what it was like to not be able to breathe. "Oh," the antivaxxer says, “But you survived, right? No harm done." But not everyone survived those illnesses. And some had life long health issues. I wouldn't wish anyone to go through those diseases like I had to.

My own personal photo, taken at a Historic Cemetery.

Sen #RonWyden accused #RFKJr of being hypocritical, saying he is fond of saying he’s not making “recommendations” about whether parents should #vaccinate their #children, but “just asking questions” & giving people choices.

“It’s a slippery tactic to dodge any real responsibility for his words & actions, & it’s absurd coming from somebody who’s trying to win confirmation for a job that is entirely about making recommendations,” Wyden said in his opening statement.

My, how times have changed. Now, we are dealing with parents who refuse to #vaccinate their children.

By the time we hit the 1970s & 80s, #PSA posters were everywhere and covering a variety of social concerns, from everybody’s favorite bear telling you how to prevent forest fires to #StarWars characters reminding you to vaccinate your children. This is also the moment when the idea of celebrity or pop culture entering into the PSA space really takes hold. Remember when at the end of GI Joe cartoons you’d see a “knowing is half the battle” clip or when there’d be a “very special” episode of a popular teenage show, typically discussing issues of domestic violence, teen pregnancy, or drug use? Using familiar, beloved characters to get a message across proved very, very effective and started to dominate the PSA genre.
