Asking for advice - I just gave another presentation yesterday where, as usual, I wanted to talk about far more than I had time for.

I'm thinking the solution to that would be a blog of some sort, where I could dump those ideas, hone them, maybe categorize them if I have the energy. It would be mostly text and pics, but the ability to post the odd video and allow for downloading of docs would be good.

No idea where to start. Ideally, I'd want a Canadian platform, and full ownership of my posts. No “we own everything you write” in the fine print.

I'm not interested in making money, but not opposed to paying a little to be on a good platform. But the posts have to be accessible to all.

I know* if I paid for hosting, I could take care of the rest. But it feels like overkill, with all the blogging platforms already out there. On the other hand, always nice to run things out of my own domain.

*”I know" = “I think, but I’ve really got no idea”

Any ideas/suggestions? I'm grateful.

Every year I come across a bunch of people saying blogging is "dead" or "not viable anymore." And yet, every year we have 100+ bloggers sign up for the #AtoZChallenge, creating wonderful long-form content that is fun to read and follow.

There are topics that you just can't do justice to in a 10-second video format. And I am happy that my blog can be a static resource for #folklore and #mythology, while others write about other topics they are passionate about.

I wrote a brief piece on how the Fediverse helped me discover new and unusual concepts that reignited my enthusiasm for writing through tech minimalism.

Kudos to @HailsandAles and @denis; without you, this could happen, but not this fast

The world has been terribly noisy lately, so here's a reminder to the universe what blog posts this witch was supposed to write:

- Why medieval people hated black cats (or not)

- "The end of history" and other Dystopian daydreams

- Why stepmothers were always evil

- The meaning of health and illness for witch hunts

... Hopefully my witch and I will get to it.

hey! I've just moved here today and i thought I'd start by introducing myself. I'm an ecologist, specialized in avian and herpetofaunal ecology. i am also very interested in the data science aspect of the discipline, and i am working on getting more familiar with the ins and outs of R programming, and hopefully moving to more conventional programming, so i can feed into my other interests.

i am also muchly into open source software, specifically Emacs and Void Linux, and in my free time, work on contributing to Void Linux packages and my Emacs config. i tend to talk about all of these things a lot.

I'm big on cats. well, basically everything about them. expect a LOT of photos.

i also play the guitar a little and I'm predominantly into loud and dark music. I do talk about the music i listen to as well, both here and on my blog articles.

i also occasionally like to indulge in woodworking, and i hope to get more active with it

i have been blogging since 2016, on and off, and recently revived my blog after a hiatus of nearly 2 years.

Mysterious authors' brains. 🧠 I'm writing a new blog article. My brief: nothing about politics today! We need courage. Then the text takes me by the hand.
I read about a blocked drain and come across tiny seeds. And how is that supposed to become a meaningful text? The text giggles: 'you will see'.

I like it when my texts know more than me. 😁 🤯
