The beauty of a sketchbook is experimentation.

I deviated dramatically from my typical approach on this one. Usually I draw the picture in pencil first, then ink it, and then color it. But this time I threw down a bunch of different watercolors then sketched on top of that. I added more color once inked because I wanted to fill in certain areas.

It was pretty unnerving because I was worried about needing to erase lines like I usually do, many times, whilst composing the image, but it all worked out in the end. I'm pretty pleased. Although, looking back now, I wish I had chosen different colors.

Wine Jug and Glass (1916) is an oil painting by Spanish cubist painter Juan Gris (1887-1927). Abstract geometric shapes and forms come together to depict a still life composition, with what appears to be a wine jug and glass. The use of muted and earthy colors is juxtaposed with patches of black, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality.
