I started uploading to #soundcloud some tracks i made back in 2022-2023. Ranges from #dark #ambient to #experimental #glitch done with #modular #synth & #semimodular #synths & the occasional drum machine. A friend made up a midi-perl program that simulates ever-changing rain or drips from a multi-holed bucket, somehow. Naturally, I changed the soundfont to tablas, and recorded that with a #modular Braids + FX-Aid patch. :D

The main track was more cabin fever. The b-side got nerdy. Inspiration struck -- could I make music some nothing? Using only a single effects plugin and no midi or audio, the answer is yes. Oscillators and noise generators and shaping... but #modular folks knew this already.

I've been rewriting my software-defined #modular #synthesizer #rust library with an eye on performance. One benchmark I'm using is how many concurrent saw wave oscillators I can play while keeping up with the 44.1kHz audio sample rate. On a single thread on my machine I can run about 6000 saw waves concurrently but my rewrite also makes it easy to share the oscillators among many threads. This demo has 48k saw waves and produces some pleasing interference patterns:
