If John Carpenter’s ‘They Live’ was made into an ep of #Space1999, you’d get S2 E17 ‘Bringers of Wonder’. Horrible creatures take over Alpha & only Koenig can see them for what they really are.

- Lovecraftian, truly spooky creature designs
- Eagle cockpit fires can burn in the vacuum of space!
- Landau hits 11 on the William Shatner scale of over-acting
- Nice character backstories are filled in
- Koenig has come to chew bubblegum and kick ass and he’s all out of bubblegum

The Gay Wedding of Jackson Elias.

Plus I also managed sneak peeks at Chainsaw, Echoes of Yesterday, new editions of #13thAge and #Pendragon, and #Space1999. Some brief thoughts on specific games follow…

Chainsaw: This Mörk Borg derivative, still in playtesting, works very well for running slasher horror, though I find its fear mechanic currently too crunchy (and deathy!) a death spiral. It's still in development, though, so hopefully this'll be addressed before its release.

S2 E14 #space1999 - ‘The Beta Cloud’ a mysterious cloud sickens most of Alpha & sends a seemingly unstoppable monster to steal the base’s life support system for… reasons.

- Paper thin plot
- Very little Landau & Bain who were on vacation in the south of France for this ep 😎🥂
- Tony finally traps the creature then lets it out for… reasons
- David Prowse played the creature & shortly after filiming was cast as Darth Vader!
- Tony FINALLY tells Maya he loves her then recants at ep end 😝

S2 E13 #space1999 - Seed of Destruction - A Koenig doppelgänger takes over Alpha! Unlike Kirk’s evil transporter twin or Picard’s adversarial alien double, Landau’s performance is mainly a lot of yelling.

- Dr. Russell, Tony, Maya & Alan spend 90% of the ep handwringing deciding if John’s bonkers
- Prime Koenig has his comlock but doesn’t call for help?!
- Tony & Maya left stranded on asteroid because the epilogue & wrap up was completely CUT from ep.
- Fred Freiberger strikes again

E12 The AB Chrysalis is one of my favs of S2 #space1999 and one I actually remember as a kid. Koenig, Alan and Maya must grapple with chlorine breathing, beautiful aliens and try to convince them not to blow Alpha to smithereens.

- Cool, bouncing slow-mo balls!
- A very young, naked Sarah Douglas (Ursa from Superman II) guest stars
- Glad to have Alan back (Tony filming another ep)
- Good mystery & story resolution
- Landau’s Koenig more nuanced
- We actually SEE a Maya transformation

Something from the archives. This has been on my ”Projects” folder for three years now. There was always something missing from it and I couldn’t figure out what it was until yesterday. I had tried to make it a regular photograph without the original negative borders and the crosshairs. I think it all needs to be there.⁣

Those Apollo mission photographs are astonishing btw. I mean seriously, if you really look at them they are just crazy cool!⁣

So after 10 ep of S2 where she mysteriously went missing, Sandra is suddenly back at her post in the Command Centre like nothing ever happened in E11 ‘Catacombs of The Moon’.

I’m going to take that as a sign Paul Morrow, David Kono and Victor Bergman are also alive and well somewhere off camera on Moonbase Alpha. 😝 #space1999

If Arena & The Savage Curtain from TOS #StarTrek fused in a freak transporter accident you’d get S2 E7 of #space1999 - The Rules of Luton.

Koenig & Maya are forced to battle aliens to the death while Alpha tries to save them. Bad episode w/ one *very* bright spot - A scene between Maya & Koenig delving into both their backstories. Wow.

- Comlocks are waterproof!
- Plants can talk!
- Alien costumes on a budget
- Kirk’s cannon > Koenig’s bolo
- Koenig doesn’t kill his enemy. Like Kirk

While the science behind S2 E5 ‘Journey To Where’ is dubious at best, the story is great. The Alphans have a limited window to transport themselves back to Earth but end up stranded in ancient Scotland instead.

Reminded me a bit of #StarTrek Voyager ep ‘Message in A Bottle’ that sent the Doctor back to the Alpha Quandrant. #space1999

- Lots of mystery & drama!
- Helena in trouble AGAIN!
- Characters do SMART things
- Nice Alpha character moments
- Maya transforms into Mr Hyde. Fun!

I’m 4 episodes into S2 of #space1999 - ‘All That Glisters’. I miss Bergman and Paul but Maya is a great edition to the cast. I always liked Tony as a kid too but he’s pretty useless in this ep.

The crew sets down to collect a mineral they need and instead end up in a life and death struggle with… a rock.

- Helena is once again damsel in distress
- All the characters do dumb things
- Nothing really happens… a lot of running around
- Landeau reportedly hated the script, I can see why

@bigzaphod Soooo let me tell you a little story that is oddly relevant to both our current TV watching. Ron Moore, the creator of BSG had many shows that influenced his writing career. He has said many times that one of those influences was #Space1999. Each episode of Sp1999 also has a teaser sequence in the opening credits. Moore patterned BSG after that as an ode to one of his fav scifi shows.

I don’t like them either and usually close my eyes while they’re on, they spoil WAY too much.

Finally finished S1 of #space1999. Quite a bit I didn’t remember. Overall I enjoyed most of the stories in S1.

Apprehensive about losing Bergman, Kano and Paul in S2. As a kid I didn’t care but this time these characters grew on me over the course of the season. What Fred Frieberger was thinking at the time is beyond me. Guess it came down to budget but it still stinks.

Even worse is the fact the show gives no explanation what-so-ever for their disappearances. 😓

S1 E23 ‘The Testament of Arkadia’ is a pretty fun ep that presents big, mythic concepts. The first two acts are mysterious and intriguing but the third act is just busywork as the two guest stars basically hold Alpha hostage over Dr. Russell.

- Just once could Helena be the hero and get herself out of trouble? Nope.
- Paul Morrow keeps growing on me. Too bad he’s axed in S2 😓
- Even more questionable science!
- Love the commander’s office set re-dress as gym
- Satisfying 7/10 🦅
